Fullerton, California is a city in Orange County, California and the seat of Fullerton Township. The population was 137,515 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Fullerton were Native Americans who hunted and gathered resources near present-day orange groves. A post office was established in 1857, and fullerton became a town on November 3, 1871. The townsite grew because of its location at the intersection of two main roads: State Route 27 and Fullerton Boulevard. In 1923, when it merged with neighbouring Santa Ana, Fullerton became one of Southern California's original " Congratulations Towns ". This designation applied to communities that had satisfied conditions including having no Japanese residents or businesses during World War II. In 1951, after acquiring annexed parts of Huntington Beach and Anaheim (a process which took place through a public vote), Fullerton became an independent city again with its own government. The City Council adopted ordinances establishing planning goals for the city as well as developing policies regarding land use and development; these policies have been used to guide much later growth in the city while still maintaining close ties to surrounding communities

In 1875, Fuller's son George H. Fuller donated land to the town for a public park and school district. The city of Fullerton was incorporated in 1880. In 1911, the California legislature designated Fullerton as the state capital of California.
