Fullerton, California is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 156,828 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in Orange County after Anaheim. The city is located on the eastern edge of Anaheim and borders Disneyland on one side and Riverside on the other. The name "Fullerton" comes from two different places: One was a small creek that emptied into the ocean near Fullerton's present location, while another full name for this area was "Tustin." In 1887, Samuel Fuller donated land to build what would become Fullerton Gardens. This beautiful blend of English country living with Mediterranean culture gave rise to many names for Fullerton- such as Godiva's Drive-In Theatre District (now called Disney’s Hollywood Studios), Fashion Valley, and Heritage Heights. The original townsite had no water or sewage service; citizens dug wells and conducted agricultural activities until 1902 when an improvement campaign by Mayor Harry Hahn led to construction ofFuller’s Wells Municipal Water Supply Plant which made full use of irrigation resources now available throughout most part ofFullerton Peninsula". On July 15th 1870, Thomas Edison demonstrated his electric streetcar system in downtown Fullerton when he invited eight passengers to ride free from 5pm-9pm that night. This event marked the first time electricity was used in Southern California. Between 1827 and 1861, over 1 million men served with distinction in both state militias and federalized regiments called "National Guards." Following Abraham Lincoln's enactment of General Order No. 4 on April 12th 1865 – ordering all states within Union territory to call forth their "well-regulated militia" for duty within 24 hours – many state militaries became federally organized as brigades under command of Lieutenant Colonel Nathaniel Lyon (the last major step before full regimentation). Fullerton is a city in California, United States. The population was 108,362 as of the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Orange County and the second-largest city in Los Angeles County. The City of Fullerton was founded on December 1, 1881 by James Worthy and other settlers from Southern California. After years of growth, it became an incorporated city on January 5, 1912. On February 14, 1959, Fullerton adopted a new charter that made it an unincorporated community existing only within its own police and fire services. When Los Angeles annexed most of Orange County in 1965, Fullerton's status changed to that of a full-time municipality with its own municipal government and jail system. The Port of Long Beach played a significant role in early Fullerton history as one of the few ports open to American shipping during the Gold Rush period. The first ship to arrive at the port was the brigantine Northampton on July 7, 1854. A wharf was built at what is now Harbor Boulevard and Broadway Street for use by vessels coming into town from Stockton and Visalia Bay; however, these attempts were unsuccessful because there were no rivers or estuaries nearby to supply potable water or provide shade for ships while docking. In 1861–1862 local merchants formed a company called "Livermore Navigation Company" which developed facilities along Livermore Strait between San Pedro Creek and Point Lobos Creek due to an abundance of marine life around Point Conception Island caused by Cyclone Nita (1860). In 1865 two companies organized under the name "Pacific Telegraph Company" constructed telegraph lines from San Francisco northward across Santa Barbara Channel to Isla Vista near Laguna Beach; this line became known as "The Alta California Line". On October 25, 1871 William Irvine settled on land comprising present day Fullerton downtown area south of Third Street east of Harbor Boulevard; he named his tract “Irvine Place” after himself and his brother John Irvine who had also settled in Ventura County some time earlier but failed to develop it commercially because there were no natural resources available close at hand including water supplies or lumber mills capable Of producing goods enought To sustain him & his family (& others), & so he sold outrights back East In 1872 for $10/acre ($1 million today) – making him One Of America’s First Homebuilders! The first post office opened in Fullerton on November 15th 1888.; mail started being delivered through Mr.(now USPS) Box Service about 1915 when they moved their Headquarters From Laguna NigueltoFullerston (then part Of Torrance) So Mail just kept moving up until 1975 when they finally got their Own Tower #2 On May 16th1975!!! Postal Service Headquarters still stand today inside Municipal Building/Parks Department building next door across First Avenue from Maritime Museum
