In 1922, Galt began to build its first church which remains standing today. In 1949, the city of San Francisco annexed part of GALT and made it their new center for government services and commerce. Galt, California is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 2,953 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Galt comes from Spanish words meaning "mountain" or "peak." The mountain peak at Galt was first sighted by Captain Peralta in 1802 and named Los Angeles de la Garza (Los Angeles of the Deer). In 1853, General Winfield Scott issued a proclamation naming the mountain Santa Ana del Cucamonga (Santa Ana Mountain). The post office at Galt was established in 1896. In 1907, the community became known as "Galt." A post office called Altadena opened in 1912 and closed in 1960. In 1928, Galt's first movie theater was built on East Avenue. That same year saw the opening of the first food store in Riverside County and it operated until 1978. The last movie theater to open in Galt was an IMAX 3D cinema which opened on February 10th, 2019. However there are plans to reopen one of these cinemas soon. There has also been talk about building a public golf course within GALT but no final decisions have been made yet!

In 1851 A.D., George Custer and his cavalry unit came through the area on their way to the Dakota Territories and camped near what is now downtown Galt. Today, Galt is known for its agricultural production as well as its local wine industry which produces several types of wine including Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon
According to the California Historical Society, Galt was first settled in 1849 by Mormons led by Brigham Young. The town was named for Jerald and Sandra Galt, who purchased land in nearby San Bernardino County. The town grew quickly due to its location near the Sierras and its close proximity to Southern California's gold fields. In 1875, Galt became a city under the auspices of Los Angeles County. By 1920, however, Galt had shrunk to a small community with a population of only 100 people.
