Galt, California is a small town in Sonoma County, California, located on the west coast of the United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The first permanent European settlement in Galt was founded by Captain John Ensign of HMS "Beagle" on December 20, 1807, as San Lorenzo de la Venta (Spanish for "New Town"). The name was changed to Galt on February 3, 1809 after Capt. Gideon Welles's vessel arrived there with goods from China and called at that name while passing through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Galt grew rapidly with its successful olive-oil business and became known as one of Northern California's leading wine-growing towns during the 1850s and 1860s. In 1855 Augustus Kelley bought land near Galt from José Maria Aguilar for $10 an acre (0.4 km²). He built a well-topped adobe house which served as his ranch headquarters until his death in 1865. In 1870 his son Ezra Aiken Kelley took over management of the land and built a larger house still standing today - now known as Old Agency Headquarters - which served as both his home and office until it burned down in 1906. During World War II Galt played a key role in military aircraft production due to its location on nearby Moffett Field where Douglas Aircraft had their experimental plant started up in 1942 before moving to Lexington Park Arsenal Maryland later that year; Alameda County also produced much American war weaponry including tanks and artillery pieces from 1942 onward thanks to local armament manufacturer Taylor & Francis Company who operated out of GALT until 1957 when they moved uptown toOak Ridge Arsenal Tennessee following WWII efforts there to build modern airbases utilizing alloys not found on Ulysses S Grant's old army base at Fort Donelson Missouri . In 1948 brothers Royce, Dickie and Wally Potter opened what would soon become one of America’s most renowned restaurant franchises – Royce’s Pizza – starting out serving pizza dough made fresh daily within minutes outside their home on Main Street adjacent to school bus stop number 2A right next door to movie theater across First Baptist Church property (now Redevelopment Agency Building). Only two years later they opened Royce’s Italian Restaurant inside then newly renovated Masonic Temple #2 – now Renaissance Center mall parking lot off I-580 exit 53 near Macy’s Christmas store – becoming America’s first self-service Italian restaurant chain open 24/7/365 under same ownership still going strong more than 50 years later! The Galt, California gold rush began on December 22, 1848 when four men prospecting for gold in the area discovered a large amount of gold. The men named themselves the "Galt Party" and set up camp near the present day town of Galt. In January 1850, they started to bring in ore from their diggings and soon realized that they had found an even bigger find. They quickly became rich and decided to build a larger settlement called Gold Hill around their new discovery. The first store was built on Gold Hill in September 1850. By autumn of 1850, there were already over 100 people living in Gold Hill. From here, the Galt Party slowly developed into what is now known as America's most successful gold Rush campaign.
