Today Galt is home to a number of businesses including two wineries (Shahin Chardonnay and Cimarron Vineyards), two breweries (North Coast Brewing Company and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company), one health club (First Presbyterian Church), four schools (Foothill Elementary School, Joshua Tree Middle School, South Gate Intermediate School, Northgate High School) and five churches (First Baptist Church-GALT; Second Presbyterian Church-GALT; United Methodist church-GALT; Hillsong United Methodist church-HIGH). There are also several residences including one golf course that opened in 2006 and another that began construction in 2003. Parts of GALT are designated as Wilderness Preserves where hunting is not allowed but hiking and biking are permitted with some restrictions such as no fires or vehicles greater than 6 feet long inside any park area

In 1868, Galt became a post office and in 1886 it was incorporated as a city. The population of Galt grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching 100 residents by 1910. By 1920, the population had reached 350 people and the city's first school opened in 1925. growth slowed during World War II but resumed after the war due to increased industry in the area. In 1970, Galt annexed part of unincorporated Riverside County. As of 2010, Galt has an estimated population of 2,500 people
