The Garden Grove Air Force Base has been a part of the California National Guard since 1947. The base is home to three squadrons of the Californian Air National Guard's 142nd Fighter Wing, which can be divided into two wings, each with 18 F-16 Fighting Falcons. In 1951, the Air Force station at Garden Grove was transferred from Redlands to Garden Grove. In 1957, the 143rd Fighter Wing moved from Redlands to Garden Grove and in 1959 it was reassigned to Sacramento AFB as an F-86E squadron. In 1965, when Sacramento AFB was redesignated as Vandenberg AFB, the 141st Fighter Wing became part of that wing and split its F-86s between both bases. In October 1987, Enterprise Aero Services Inc., manufacturer of military helicopters and transports for use by the Department of Defense (DoD), donated 19 CH-46E Sea Stallions to the local air force. These helicopters were used by No. 5 Squadron (Air lieu) at Gardner Airport until they were replaced by Bell 412 Jet Rangers in early 2009. In May 1992 a Cessna 152SP Skyhawk donated by General Dynamics Aircraft Division was accepted for use as an attached unit at Garden Grove AB; it served as an instructor helicopter for Army aviation cadets until it retired in 2001. On 8 November 1996 a Boeing 747 donated by Boeing Helicopters America Incorporated was accepted for use as an attached unit at Garden Grove AB; it served as a transport aircraft for DoD VIPs until it retired in 2003. On 1 December 1999 Lockheed Martin Corporation offered donation of 17 P-3C Orion maritime surveillance planes; these planes replaced Northrop Grumman's P-3C Neptune maritime patrol aircraft which had served at Garden Grove AFB since 1978]]. The last Douglas DC-8 delivered to garden grove air force base came on 15 March 2003 when Lockheed Martin offered donation of 17 KC135J Stratofortress aerial refueling planes which replaced Boeing 747s which had been serving at Gardener AFB since 1978.]].

Garden Grove is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 113,753 at the 2010 census. Garden Grove's name means "garden of trees." The first Europeans to visit Garden Grove were the French in 1769 and Captain John Biddle in 1775. The city was founded on November 15, 1853 by Major General James Hahn as part of a larger land grant to Governor Manuel Nieto. In 1860, Garden Grove became an incorporated town with a population of 30 residents. In 1907, Garden Grove annexed portions of neighbouring Anaheim Hills. Garden Grove's original downtown area spanned two blocks on North Main Street between Second and Third Streets and included six buildings: the United States Post Office (1853-60), the Municipal House (1860-67), the Masonic Temple (1868-71), the Bank of America Building (1872-76), and the First National Bank Building (1907). Of these buildings, only four remain standing: the Post Office building still stands as a commercial use building; the Masonic Temple building is now home to Park Place Apartments; the Bank of America Building is now home to New Century Bankshares; and finally, the First National Bank Building has been demolished and replaced by a newmulti-storey office tower known as Regency Tower currently under construction next door to City Hall. In 1916–17 Mayor John Waddell unsuccessfully campaigned for mayoralty against incumbent Harry Jaffe who had held that office since 1912 without interruption. On May 3rd 1916 Waddell was elected Mayor defeating Jaffe by 7 votes out of 11 cast including 1 abstention from Mayor Purdy who also ran for mayor that year but did not win re-election due to term limits set forth in state law at that time. This victory demonstrated how important local government was then in Garden Grove as it helped position him for later success when he won election as State Senator in 1978 despite having no prior political experience outside of being elected mayoralty twice before. During World War II many gardens were developed around Southern California including Hollywood Gardens near Paramount Pictures studios which became one of Hollywood's most popular tourist attractions thanks largely to its large pond filled with thousands of fish which could be seen from both sets of Paramount Studios' backlot sets used for filming purposes only days after production began on "Star Wars". As development increased along Halbach Avenue such public areas became unavailable or difficult to maintain so parklike gardens took over instead complete with playgrounds, tennis courts, fountains and other features typical during this era like today found at numerous suburban streetscapes across Los Angeles County although often less well maintained than those found in older cities like San Francisco or Oakland where parks have long been integral community hubs open to all regardless socioeconomically or otherwise while streetscapes are typically more reserved primarily for wealthy residents enjoying exclusive access adjacent private properties within their neighbourhoods rather than open access enjoyed by everyone irrespective socioeconomically or otherwise
When the United States Air Force was first formed in 1947, it had only a small number of aircraft. In 1953, the USAF began to purchase jets and by 1957, it had over 100 planes. The USAF then began to buy helicopters and built its first headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1959. The USAF also began to build bases all around the world and purchased more planes and helicopters. The USAF also started training airmen for other services such as the Navy and Marines. By 1970, when the US Air Force decided to divest itself of its bomber wing (the Strategic Air Command), it had a total of 529 planes including fighter jets, bombers, transports and helicopters. The USAF has always been one of America's most important military forces with an enormous impact on both world events and domestic politics. It is responsible for providing fighter protection against enemy attack; conducting nuclear deterrence missions; operating land-based missiles; providing air refueling support for allied troops fighting in Operation Desert Storm; Titan II missile attacks on Iraq; Afghanistan/Pakistan operations; peacetime intelligence gathering activities (including everything from listening posts in Cuba to secret rendition flights); support for Special Operations Forces units worldwide In World War II alone, the United States Air Force dropped more bombs than any other country on battlefields throughout Europe combined. Additionally, American pilots flew some of the most famous combat missions during that conflict - such as bombing Hiroshima or flying over Tokyo during Japan's surrender phase - leaving an indelible mark on history. It had two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines providing 1,500 mph of speed. The RAF ordered 323 examples in 1948, but only 27 were delivered before production was cancelled due to budget cuts.
