Coffee beans were first grown in this area back in the 1800s and early 1900s, and even today, some of the best artisan coffee is made here. The city was founded on December 12th, 1887 by J.P. Morgan and his associates as a citrus growing town in response to their demand for quality coffee beans. In 1925, Garden Grove became an official city with its own government and police department. It wasn’t until 1957 that it passed a law allowing for grocery stores to sell coffee. Today, Garden Grove is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Southern California because of its unique culture and history. One of the earliest cafes in Garden Grove was The Cottage Coffee House on West Hope Street which served fair trade roasts from Africa and Indonesia. After World War II, many small businesses opened up around town including The Green Grocery which sold pre-packaged coffee products such as milk shakes and muffins from local farms before Starbucks began selling them nationwide in 1975. One of the most well-known restaurants here is Blue Bottle Coffee which serves handcrafted specialty coffees from all over the world at their downtown location since 2010. In the late 1980s, Bob's Coffee moved its operations to a new location on Third Street in downtown Garden Grove. In 2000, Bob's Coffee merged with other businesses to form ABC Coffee Co., which continues to produce high-quality artisan coffee today.

Other significant attractions include South Coast Plaza shopping district, which includes several high-end department stores such as Neiman Marcus and Macy's;[2] and Riverside Park located adjacent to Interstate 5 near downtown Garden Grove.[3] Although many people consider it an agricultural town,[4] Garden Groove has become an attractive place to live due to its low crime rates,[5][6] Chamber of Commerce statistics that show average house prices are only $115,000,[7] good schools[8][9][10][11],[12]and easy access to suburban areas west of Irvine through I-5 east of Downtown.[13][14] Garden Grove was one of two communities in Orange County chosen for inclusion in the City Beautiful Program effort promoted by then Mayor Tom Bradley in 1978.[15][16][17] The other community was Anaheim Hills
