The club was made up of sailors from various ports along the coast and served as a support system for local military units. In 1932, the Coast Guardsmen of Garden Grove established their own gift shop which still operates today. From 1933 to 1935, the Coast Guard donated two sailing boats to the Garden Grove Yacht Club. Garden Grove is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 27,824 as of the 2010 census. Garden Grove is located on the western edge of Anaheim and is east of Buena Park. It is part of the Anaheim–714th District in the Unites States House of Representatives. The city was incorporated on July 16, 1907 by a group of businessmen led by Orlando C. Frisbie and J.J. McNamara from Mission Viejo and Yorba Linda. It became an unincorporated community on October 14, 1927 when its citizens seceded from Irvine Township to form Garden Grove proper. The Los Angeles Times called Garden Grove "the most beautiful town west of San Francisco" in their November 2, 1912 article about Anaheim's new boomtown growth; they went on to write that "Garden Grove has become one of Northern California's most attractive cities." A large number of early citrus growers set up shop here including George Peabody (founder), myrtle Haughton (founder), Jethro Gibbs (founder) and others who made Orange County one of Southern California's leading agricultural regions during the 1920s and 1930s

Garden Grove, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 118,859 at the 2010 census. Garden Grove was founded on December 12, 1887 by General George Armstrong Custer and his wife Emilie Pemberton Custer. It became a city on February 14, 1911. The city was named after its location within the grove of trees which stood near the junction of two major east-west streets (Cortland and Orangery). This tree-lined avenue would later become known as "The Avenue of Roses" because so many roses were grown there. Garden Grove's first post office opened in 1885. The grove began to be developed as a resort town in the early 1920s with development of both an amusement park and homes for wealthy people who purchased parcels of land near the golf course and river. In 1925, Garden Grove annexed part of Anaheim Hills to form a new municipality. In 1928, Garden Grove amalgamated with Fullerton to form another new municipality called Fullerton Gardens (later re-named Fullerton). In 1935, during World War II, Garden Grove joined the United States military as part of the American military effort in Europe under Operation Overlord by becoming an airfield providing support for Allied forces flying into Normandy for Operation Overlord (the invasion of Normandy). As war continued to escalate in 1945, Garden Groove joined with other cities within Orange County to form what became known as "The Big Three". On July 15th 1945 through proclamation by President Harry S Truman – created by Executive Order 9382 – all small U.S., territorial or commonwealth cities had their borders enlarged by 100% to include all unincorporated areas adjacent thereto lying on waterbodies adjoining any such city or towns situated therein then existing except those heretofore included within said limits having no legal status whatsoever; this order created Gardnerville Township which includes much today's fullerton area including parts of Irvine and Canyon City
Garden Grove was founded on December 6, 1859 by Joshua H. Palmer and his wife Emeline A. Palmer as a small farming community in the eastern San Fernando Valley. The Palmers were among the first farmers in Garden Grove and helped to develop the community into a sleepy town of around 100 people that enjoyed a close-knit relationship with its neighboring communities of Alhambra and Beverly Hills. The Palmers ran a small grocery store and post office until they sold it in 1865 to John W. Bigham, who opened a general store and bakery in what is now the center of Garden Grove. The town's growth continued through the years, thanks to aggressive marketing campaigns by local businesses such as Mr. Bigham's bakery, which offered sodas, candy bars, cigarettes, beer, ice cream and other items for sale at high prices. During World War II, Garden Grove became an important target due to its location within easy reach of Los Angeles airfields used by American forces during combat in Europe. Thanks to military construction projects nearby (such as the creation of Mulholland Drive), Garden Grove emerged as an important center for postwar housing development. In recent decades, however, much of the commercial district near downtown has been replaced by residential developments . Today, Garden Grove is one of Southern California's most prosperous communities with diverse cultural attractions including art galleries and theaters; upscale shopping malls; healthcare facilities; private schools; restaurants; and professional sports teams such as the LA Rams (NFL), LA Galaxy (MLS) and USC Trojans (NCAA).
