Located on Third Street in what is now known as the Arts District of Garden Grove, this store was the first to carry firearms and ammunition in Southern California. The Gun Shop continued to be an important part of Garden Grove's economy even after it closed its doors in 1978. Garden Grove, California has had a long gun history. The first guns in the area were pistols and rifles brought over by American soldiers during the Mexican-American War. By 1868, Garden Grove had become an incorporated city with its own police department. In 1903, a bill was introduced in Congress to make it easier for civilians to buy shotguns and rifles. The bill passed into law, and Garden Grove became the first city in California to pass a gun control ordinance.

It is the most populous city in Orange County and the second-most populous city of Los Angeles County after Los Angeles. The first European to visit Garden Grove was Gaspar de Portolà on July 6, 1769. Garden Grove was established as an agricultural town by Captain John Sutter in 1824. A post office called Garden Grove was established in 1827 and remained in operation until 1907. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln's brother Edwin Booth visited Garden Grove while he was campaigning for election to the United States Senate from Illinois. At that time, there were only a few homes and businesses in Garden Grove. By 1870, there were over 350 residences and businesses in the town of Garden Grove with a population of 3,500 people. Heavy industry began arriving to Northern California during World War II with the construction of military airfields such as West Point Air Force Base and Compton Army Airfield. However, when those bases closed down after the war, many jobs left behind and Gardensgrove lost its importance as an industrial center within a few decades. Although much has changed since then (euphemistically named "The City", due to its current nickname), much of what made GardenGrove so unique has stayed--including its rich history which includes being one of America's original agricultural towns; being home to some of Southern California's earliest Afro-Latino communities; becoming one of Orange County's most important commercial centers; having several major league sports teams playing here; and hosting numerous festivals throughout the year including Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies (in December) and Hispanic Festival (in May). Today it remains a vibrant community with plenty of cultural attractions - including two professional symphony orchestras - as well as some high-tech companies that are helping spur economic growth across Southern California such as Qualcomm Incorporated (the world’s largest telecommunications company) Campus Martius Park also hosts several small business districts like The Flower District which provides access to more than 1 million plants worldwideand two parks - Memorial Park East & West - which serve not just as local green spaces but also offer excellent views into downtown LAX Airport from many streets nearby

Garden Grove began as a small agricultural town on the east side of the Santa Ana River and grew rapidly after annexation by Los Angeles in 1907. The city's first growth came from its location close to two major defense plants: Fort Sill and General Electric's Anaheim Park Campus. After World War II, Garden Grove became an increasingly diverse center for professional and creative professionals; it has attracted many well-known entertainers, including Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr., among others. Garden Grove was named after Frederick Law Olmsted who designed Central Park in New York City in 1857 and who also purchased land here for development. The early settlers were primarily Irish Catholics who arrived during the gold rush period in 1849-1850. Many of these people built their homes near where they still live today on streets such as Cathedral Road or Rancho Cordova Drive (now Toluca Street). In 1907, when Orange County was formed from parts of Los Angeles County, Garden Grove was annexed into Los Angeles proper. At that time it had a population of about 60 people and consisted mostly of farmers with some homes built by wealthy merchants and industrialists such as George Westinghouse (founder of GE). Nearby communities like Fullerton and Glendale were quickly annexed intoLos Angeles too but because GardenGrove lay along one of the main routes between those cities - Temple Street - it continued to grow slowly until 1940 when it reached its current size of 26,871 residents
