Garden Grove, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 106,651 as of the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Pasadena Avenue and north of Interstate 10. It is bordered to the south by Monterey Park and to the west by Glendale. The first European settlers in what is now Garden Grove were José Altuve and Francisco Vásquez de Coronado who discovered land they named Rancho Santa Anita in 1769. In 1873, John Sutter founded Sutter's Mill here and began to grow corn, wheat and other crops. The City of Garden Grove was incorporated on November 6, 1903. During World War II, Garden Grove served as an ammunition dump for Los Angeles County because nearby Palmdale had become too heavily bombed during the war effort. In 1965, Mayor Jerry Brown announced that Garden Grove would be the site of his presidential library which would be built adjacent to Hollywood Bowl on Wilshire Boulevard between Exposition Boulevard and Curb Street. The groundbreaking for President Lyndon Johnson's library took place on October 30th 1969; it opened in 1973 and remains open today as LBJ Library/ Museum

Garden Grove is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 41,844 at the 2010 census. Garden Grove is part of the Anaheim–Long Beach–Santa Ana metropolitan area and is located on the border of Anaheim and Santa Ana. The City of Garden Grove was founded by John C. West on November 15, 1887 as a small farming community in what is now known as southeastern Anaheim. It was named for John C. West's father-in-law, George Neely Garden (1784-1860), who had been Mayor of nearby Fullerton from 1849 to 1855 and then served as an Assemblyman from 1860 to 1865 before moving to Anaheim proper where he became one of its first four trustees. In 1850, Neely Garden purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) including what is now downtown Garden Grove from Phillip Agnew for $5 per acre. By 1870, the population of Garden Grove had grown to 697 residents when it incorporated as a city under the name "Garden Valley." By 1880 it had increased to 1,044 residents with a total land area of 5 square miles (12 km²). In 1907 William Randolph Hearst bought 160 acres (65 hectares) east of town for $10 per acre and donated it to the city for development into an open space park that would become Hearst Ranch Park today. The first public appearance by Hearst took place on October 2nd when he drove his horse buggy through town after touring the new parkland just east of what are now Main Street and Highland Avenue SE. He mentioned that while he may have only given away 10% or so of what would eventually be Hearst Ranch Park - which covers more than 20 square miles (50 km²) - but "it will do" since he felt that such land should be open to all citizens "who loved country", regardless of wealth or class background etc...Hearst's donation helped spur growth in Garden Grove which reached its peak during World War I with a population increase of 30%. However, following World War I there were declines in both business activity andresidential development throughout much of southern Orange County due largely to changes in technology and other economic forces outside their control...As post-WWI Los Angeles grew increasingly denser –thanks primarily to white flight –Garden Grove began losing some key commercial tenants until the late 1960s when new businesses started up around Main Street near Industrial Boulevard SW...Today much like many other American cities experiencing rapid growth during this time period outside traditional agricultural areas: subdivisions sprung up around shopping malls; commuting became increasingly difficult by car; single family homes became more popular among high income professionals; crime rates went up; schools closed…the benefits derived from postwar suburban sprawl quickly eroded over time." However even though south OC saw large increases (+25%) in residential housing density between 1945-'47 & '59-'61 post-WWII without concurrent investment/growth elsewhere withinSouthern California [of course this has varied greatly depending upon location], Downtown LA’s Overall Population Density peaked at over 747 people/sq mi circa 1984…This suggests that if you want densehousing developments built adjacent/within Downtown LA limits these days you’ll haveto go outbidder
