National Guard gifts have been a part of Garden Grove, California's history for over 100 years. The first time the Garden Grove National Guard was organized was on February 14th, 1916. At that time, there were only 10 troops in Garden Grove. The first commander was Major John Ahern. The guard was originally called the "Garden Grove Volunteer Infantry". It wasn't until 1921 that the name changed to the "Garden Grove National Guard" because it became part of the United States Department of Defense. Since 1916, the Garden Grove National Guard has donated items such as rifles, ammunition and vehicles to various organizations throughout our community. Some of these donations have been large-scale such as giving away tanks and other armored vehicles to local colleges or universities; however, many times we've just given out food or water to families in need. In addition to its donations, the GNGL also conducts numerous educational events throughout the year including open carry range training exercises and summer concerts at Weyburn Park amphitheater.

Garden Grove, California is a city in Southern California located on the Central Coast of Mexico. As of the 2010 census, its population was 607. Garden Grove is part of the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos metropolitan area and the 8th most populous city in California. It occupies a basin bounded by Imperial Valley to the north, Orange County to the east, Riverside County to the south and west, and Baja California to the northwest. The City grew rapidly from small settlement around 1885 until it reached its current size in 1925 when it annexed El Cajon. The first Europeans who set foot in what is now Garden Grove were Spanish Franciscan missionaries who arrived there during Mission San Gabriel Arcángel (1810–1821). They built a mission chapel near what is now downtown Garden Grove in 1825. After Mexican independence from Spain was granted on November 15, 1821, Mission San Gabriel Arcángel became part of Alta California under Mexican rule as part of Rancho Santa Fe de los Angeles Section 3. In 1852 an act was passed by Congress designating Rancho Rinconadacomalco as land grant for Juan Rivera y Costilla (1792–1864), one of Governor Manuel Micheltorena's assistants during his tenure as governor from 1850 to 1861. In 1863 Los Angeles Company founders Don Miguel Estrada and José Antonio Noriega bought this large rancho for $5 million from Rivera y Costilla’s widow María de la Luz de la Costa y Pacheco Damaschini withintent to develop it into a citrus growing town called Villa Park which would be opposite Los Angeles proper on Harbor Boulevard at present day Clairefontaine Drive SW corner lot 5669 (now Flower Street). A year later another group led by Captain John Sutter purchased Rancho Rinconadacomalco from Noriega for $8 million also intending development but found no success growing oranges or other crops there so they abandoned their plans in 1865 and returned home. With new investment arriving following discovery of petroleum reserves within Angeleno territory throughout southern coastal Sonoma County during 1906 Enterprise Oil Co., founded by members of Sutter's East SideADR company that had drilled successful wells at Refugio Chino just north of Paso Robles;[1] this new company soon initiated production on several thousand acres in adjacent portions including much of today's Garden Grove including many homes built along First Avenue between Rosemont Avenue NW and Northridge Road NE – what are now Old Town GARNDROVE . A year later Captains George Wainwright & Augustus Weaver bought land adjoining Captains George Wainwright & Augustus Weaver’s old firm Wainwright Beall & Drake Land Co., merged with Enterprise oil company renamed Will Rogers National Forest Corporation effective February 1st 1907 which leased about 10% interest in various areas thru 1915 before selling all interests back to private individuals including Captain Jack Warner who lived across First Ave.] With growth came social unrest due largely to sporadic crop failures followed by economic hardship brought about primarily by overgrazing caused by increased demand for agriculture products from both local residents and visitors taking advantage of available grazing lands while commercial farming failed To provide redress these problems were addressed through government regulation culminating with passage of The Government Code Of California Annotated 1933 which created regulation governing cultural events such as dances given public notices prior thereto throughout all unincorporated areas subject thereto upon request thereof made either orally or symbolically before any justice or board composed thereof having cognizance therein; provided also that no dance shall take place without written permission aforesaid duly obtained; further providing that said notice may be published once each week newspapers having general circulation being furnished coastwise serviceifying same generally throughout said unincorporated area subject thereto not exceeding 2 pages except Sundays when said newspapers are distributed free only within city limits) Official incorporation papers naming Garden Grove were filed with Secretary Of State On December 4th 1915.[2] The original site chosen for City Hall included parts now occupied by First Avenue SW corner lot 5669 (now Flower Street) between Rosemont Avenue NW and Northridge Road NE – what are now Old Town GARNDROVE . Construction began on May 17th 1916[3] originally utilizing local brick labor then progressing via winter weather permitting use OF American Bridge Company tunnel constructed eastward under present day I-5 freeway southwest off ramp onto old military base road known locally as Redondo Beach Boulevard; finally completing construction February 12th 1917 using newly acquired funds raised through tax imposed sales tax levied upon items sold within incorporated boundaries

Morgan had been born in Ohio but came to California at the age of twenty-one to start his own business interests there. He soon learned that Pasadena was one of the most important cities in Southern California because it had easy access to both farmland and industry – two key resources for growing crops and manufacturing goods respectively.Morgan decided that he would move his business operations to Pasadena so he could be closer to both resources and potential customers – something that many entrepreneurs did at the time). The first year that he lived in Pasadena (1887), he established himself as one of the leading businessmen in town by starting a flour mill and making cigars for dignitaries such as Ulysses S Grant and William Howard Taft (the first American president from Mexico). By 1890, Morgan had become so successful that he decided it was time for him move his businesses even further northward into what is now Orange County – which at that time consisted mostly of hilly agricultural land rich with minerals like coal and silver veins.* Withgrowing wealth came increased traffic congestion on arterial streets downtown; GARDEN GROVE WAS BUILT TO SAVE THESE ROADS! Not only did this new development help relieve pressure on downtown streets but also it helped spur economic growth along those same streetside arteries.* This spurred other entrepreneurs who saw opportunity within this new market place* finally getting their products onto store shelves across Southern California By 1912, Garden Grove had become one of southernCalifornia’s largest municipalities with over fifty thousand residents living cheekbyjowl with Hollywood Blvd., Glendale Boulevard/Saddleback Mountains Rd., Universal Studios/MGM Grand Hotel/Elaborate Park & much more*. With such an expanding population came increased transportation needs; GARDEN GROVE WAS FIRST TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FROM DOWNTOWN FOR THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT LIVED THERE BY 1920!* Today, Garden Grove remains home To over 250000 people who live close enough together without ever feeling overcrowded * Due largely To Its Great Infrastructure Of Public Transportation And Maintained Open Space*, GARDEN GROVE IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR CITIES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
