Gardena is located in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. It was once a small farming community with a population of around 100 people. The community changed hands several times and eventually fell out of use. In the 1920s, it was established as a military airfield and then used as a munitions plant during World War II. After the war, Gardena became an agricultural town with mostly citrus production. The industry slowly went away in the 1970s and 1980s, leaving Gardena largely a residential community.
