Gilroy, California is a town in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 5,665 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Stockton, about 31 miles (50 km) northeast of Sacramento and 122 miles (193 km) south of Fresno. The Gilroy Fault runs through the town. The name "Gilroy" comes from two Spanish words "Giralda". One word means high mountain and the other word means valley or plain. So when Spaniards first saw this area they thought it must be some high mountain because there were no valleys hereabouts. But as they went further around they found several small valleys with flatlands in between them. Consequently, they named this place Giralda Valley after one of these smaller valleys which God had given to them while they were exploring this area looking for new land to colonize.

Gilroy, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 2,502 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin County metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Gilroy was Manuel Nieto, who arrived in 1847. Gilroy became a post office on March 1, 1851 and was named for General José de San Francisco y Costilla y la Hacienda (1768-1837), Governor of Alta California during Mexican War I and First Chief Justice of the United States (1821-1827). In 1863, George Hearn opened a store here. The town site was surveyed by Captain John Sutter and named for him on December 20, 1865. In 1876, Los Angeles County began annexing portions of central and southern Sacramento County to form new counties; Gilroy was not included within these newcounties but continued to be considered part of Sacramento County because it lay within their boundaries at the time. However, Gilroy had already become an established community with its own school system and Masonic Lodge #2 when county officials decided to annex it into Los Angeles County proper in 1907. As a result of this annexation decision, much of what is now Gilbert Road belonged to east Pasadena while much remaining downtowngilroy including most of Main Street were annexed intoLos Angeles City limits northeast thereof forming North Hollywood today. In 1911 Gilbert Road became Ventura Boulevard when that city became an incorporated municipality adjacent to Los Angeles City Limits northwest thereof forming Lynwood today. In 1916 both cities merged becoming one city with their original names unchanged except for Lynwood which became Angelina Park instead due to then-city mayor Earl Warren’s wife being from that name and her husband having been born in Angelina Island near Manila Bay before moving his family there when he took office as Mayor in 1915). On January 1st 1912 US Route 101 officially changed its name from Ventura Boulevard to Interstate 5 across from Downtown Los Angeles after years debate between local residents petitioning for or against the change while also dealing with objections from other municipalities bordering I5 like Palmdale which would see its borders increased if I5 were ever extended through those towns - ultimately resulting in only about 0% growth along I5 within their respective borders over time despite claims by some detractors that thisRoute designation “linked” them together more than any other factor such as commerce or job opportunities .
