Gilroy, CA is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The town was founded in 1868 by James Wahlgren and his wife Anna.] In 1941, Gilroy became the second community in California to become a city. During World War II, Gilroy’s economy was based on agriculture and military production. However, after the war ended, the town began to decline because of a lack of new businesses and population growth in neighboring towns. In 1984, the City Council voted to make Gilroy an incorporated city. The history of tactical coffee can be traced back to 1862 when Josephine Baker brought coffee beans from Hawaii and named them "Gilroy Coffee". She opened her first shop in what is now known as McKinley Park. By 1865, there were at least ten coffee shops operating throughout California. The first commercial espresso machine was introduced in 1912 by Italian immigrant Angelo Petrini who called it "Petrini's Coffee Roasters". Over time, many different companies started producing tactical coffee including Peet’s Coffee Company (1927), Dutch Bros Coffee (1948), Captain Black Coffee (1963), Starbucks (1984), Anheuser-Busch InBev (1996), and Dunkin' Donuts (2006). Today there are more than 350 cafes serving Tactical Coffee all over North America including locations in Canada and Mexico City as well as 30 international cafes across 13 countries.

Gilroy is a town in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Stockton to the east and south, Alameda to the west and north, and Sacramento to the northwest. The name Gilroy comes from Spanish: "Giralda" meaning "battlements" or "fortress". The first settlers in this area were people of Mexican descent who named themselves after their favorite saint- Juan Bautista de la Garza y Ramos (1768-1835), also called Don José de la Garza y Ramos. Rancho San Pablo had been granted by Captain Vicente Gómez in 1846 to Francisco Palomares. In 1851, Juana Guerra married José Antonio Zamora who settled there with his family in 1852. They sold part of their rancho in 1865 to Año Viva Trust Company which built a cotton gin on it. In 1866, John Sutter acquired 1/3 of Rancho San Pablo from Manuel Nieto for $5 per acre ($100 total). In 1870 he subdivided it into blocks and offered twenty acres each for sale at $10 per acre ($2,000 total). This offer was accepted and renamed Reed's Valley after Jno. Wm. Reed (1815-1892), an American prospector who traveled through Reed's Valley during his later years as an operator of gold mines near Yosemite National Park (). Reed's Valley began becoming known as Gilroy because of its location close to two water tanks that supplied irrigation water for many farms in what is now Silicon Valley (). One tank still stands today on Richards Road just east of Interstate 80 exit 17A (Hwy 101/Interstate 80) about 2 miles west of downtown Gilroy (). Some early businesses located here included: Humboldt Lumber & Supply Co., Fidelity Loan & Trust Co., Cement Works No./Fiberglass Netting Co., Tire Warehouse & Service Co.. 6th Ward School District #1 opened its doors on October 15th 1906 when Mrs Mrs Ethel Cawley took charge of teaching 8th grade students from her home on Broadway Avenue (). Many famous individuals have taught here including Drs Robert Waksman (1905-1981), Melvin Heller (1925-2006), Jane Goodall (1968-) and Tom Wolfe (. Mr Wolfe recently retired due to health issues). Today 6th WardUSD #1 continues providing education services that are important to our community including Early Childhood Development Center (), Senior High School (),Junior High Schools () and Adult Basic Education classrooms (). These boundaries were set in 1870 when ranchland was first patented in this area. The region now known as Gilroy was home to a number of Native American nations before Spanish missionaries arrived in 1769 and began missionizing this area. In 1814, Don Jose de Alvarado granted Rancho Santa Rosa alcalde status which gave rise to what is now downtown Gilroy. It wasn’t until 1862 that Gilroy became a town when it became part of同城市 (Palo Alto) while Bakersfield continued to be an agricultural center with its own post office until 1909. Gilroy was founded in 1848 by Francisco Gilroy. The town thrived for a time and became an important agricultural center, but the Gold Rush led to its decline. In 1860, it was destroyed by a fire.
