In 1963, when USAF Tactical Air Command was activated with its own headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Glendale AFB became home to AFTC's 4th Bombardment Wing which consisted of Boeing B-52 Stratofortresses and McDonnell Douglas F4C Phantom II fighters. In 1970, when Tactical Air Command was redesignated Aerospace Defense Command (AEC), Glendale AFB became the command headquarters for AEC's bomber forces with Boeing B-747s becoming operational on May 1st 1971 as part of AEC 8th Bombardment Wing composed entirely of Boeing 747liners flying from Edwards AFB CA into Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm/ Gulf War I & II!
