The United States Army has always been a part of the fabric of Glendale. The first military unit to be stationed in Glendale was the 9th Infantry Regiment, which arrived in 1847. The regiment was disbanded in 1849, but re-formed two years later and served during the Mexican-American War. In 1855, the 9th Infantry Regiment became the 1st California Volunteer Infantry Regiment and fought at Buena Vista Canyon and Chihuahua City. From 1880 to 1912, the 1st California Volunteer Infantry Regiment served as part of the Arizona Territory Militia. After being inactive for several years, it was reactivated in 1916 as part of World War I and participated in battles such as Armenteros and Tannenberg Heights. The regiment disbanded after World War I but rejoined service on October 26, 1919. During World War II, Glendale's ties to the military went beyond just its volunteer infantry battalion (the 1st Battalion) belonging to the Arizona Territorial Militia. The city also formed an airfield Auxiliary Air Force Base known as "Glendale Municipal Airport." This auxiliary air force was activated on February 15th 1941 when Major General James Doolittle announced that he would be flying his new P-51 Mustang from Midway Island southward across Japan into Manchuria without loss of life or property; this event is often considered America's first aerial bombing campaign targeting Japanese targets. He then ordered that all municipal airports within 120 miles be activated with similar capabilities so that "No aeroplane should fly over Glendale without risk." On October 25th 1942 Captain Harry Conell organized a civilians protest against American bomber losses by using banners reading "We Want Our Airplanes Back" at major U S military airfields throughout Japan; these protests eventually led to Doolittle's decision not to bomb Hiroshima which would have resulted in devastating civilian casualties had he done so. In 1945, following World War II ended there were many changes taking place within both Glendale and America including large scale gun bans which affected most cities across America as well as disarmament treaties between different nations; however, with war still looming large over Europe however things were relatively calm within America until September 11th 2001 when terrorist attacks took place Within minutes of one another tower1s collapsed resulting in more than 3000 deaths2 As international tensions continue to mount it is important for businesses like ours who do business outside of countries with embargoed goods/trade not only take precautions against any possible future events but also educate their customers about what goes on inside those countries especially when it comes to trade law compliance

The first people to live in what is now Glendale were the Tongva people who lived on what is now Topanga Canyon Boulevard. In 1847 Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo landed on Luma Island near present-day Glendale while exploring the Santa Monica Peninsula for Spain. He named it Isla de la Luz (Island of Light). When Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1848 by Father José Gomez and $8,000 from Mexico was given as perpetual patronage for its work among the Tongva people, Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolá named this area Rancho San Fernando Rey after his patron saint, Fray Diego de Borja y Real. In 1873 Japanese merchants Jiro Horiuchi and Makio Kaneyama located a small town called Kawasaki on some hills east of downtown Los Angeles where they opened an agricultural tannery. Kaneyama moved his business to Glendale in 1917 when he purchased about 200 acres (80 ha) of land at 10th Street and Western Avenue which he donated to the city. The Kawasaki Tannery developed into one ofglendale's largest employers with over 1,500 employees before it closed in 1988 because of competition from other tanneries throughout Southern California. The site currently houses several Metro stations including Union Station and Hollywood Center station on Wilshire Boulevard between La Brea Ave./Plywood Ave., Koreatown/ Westwood Blvd.,Centinela/ La Cienega Ave.,Encino Village/MacArthur Park Eastside Mall
