Glenworthy' donation of land for this purpose helped make up for much lost territory during the 1920s annexation process which left Los Angeles without any neighborhoods east or west of downtown save Beverly Hills and Westwood Village (which later became Echo Park). The first white people to live in Glendale were Mexican Californios who found land near present-day Lankershim Boulevard and Western Avenue in 1843 and named it Rancho San Antonio de Glendora because they thought its prime location would make it wealthy enough to sell land for development purposes. In 1850s two brothers by the name of George and Benjamin Fenton bought 6,000 acres (2 km²) northeast of downtown Glendale from Juan Bautista Alvarado for $5 per acre ($140 per hectare). They began developing their land into what is now known as "Boulevard Heights", "UCLA Hills", or simply "Glendale". One of the biggest landowners in Glendale during this time was J.P Morgan who acquired over 100 homes on Bureau Road between Lankershim Boulevard and Western Avenue including one still standing today - Casebook House #4 which Morgan purchased for $3 million in 1928 In 1912 Glendale had its largest annexation ever when it became part of Los Angeles County; however even before then there had been various attempts by some ranchers to annex adjacent parcels so they could have access to irrigation water available only from westglendora hills or other parts of central Los Angeles County not belonging to them directly – most notably John Atwater's efforts to annex much of eastern PasadenaAdditional annexation followed through 1965 when Orange County merged into LA county; however again most efforts occurred outside the city limits mainly along Westwood Blvd., La Brea Ave., Boyle Heights Blvd., Boyle Canyon Rd./Sugar Land Rd./Silver Lake Rd./Canyon Country Club Dr/Hollywood Blvd etc.. In recent years several proposed annexation proposals have surfaced but all have been mothballed due largely to accusations that these projects may benefit either existing city residents or redevelopment plans currently being developed within city limits which could potentially affect those properties . One major issue facing Glendale since its incorporation as a city was lack of proper infrastructure: inadequate streets, sidewalks and public transportation such as buses that made getting around difficult especially for poorer residents who lived on blocks without any streetlights or easy access to grocery stores or pharmacies
