The National Guard of Glendale is a volunteer organization which was founded on October 15, 1947. The Glendale National Guard has been present in the community since 1947 and today it is composed of over 450 soldiers and women who support local law enforcement and emergency response. The guard's main purpose is to provide security for events and functions in the city, as well as providing guard services during periods of national or international crisis. The history of the National Guard of Glendale can be traced back to October 15th, 1947 when a group of citizens united to form the firstGlendale City Guardsmen patriotic organization. At that time there were no units or organizations dedicated to defense within Glendale Community Services District (GCSD). As a result, these citizen soldiers were forced to rely on their own resources in order to maintain their security presence. In 1951 GCSD formed a Citizen Patrol Unit which was tasked with conducting random patrols within the city limits; however this unit also lacked an organizational structure. As a result, upon disbandment in 1957, these soldier's responsibilities were divided among various other GCSD departments including Police Department, Fire Department, Streets and Highways Division etc. On January 1st 1960 the citizens of Glendale organized themselves into two groups: Citizens' Militia Group #1 & Citizens' Militia Group #2 both consisting of 10-15 individuals. These two groups then met together on February 5th 1960 at City Hall where they adopted a constitution and adopted guidelines for their organization which still govern today bylaws. This meeting marked an important milestone because it was the first time that anyGlendale City Guardsmen had gathered together as one entity - this event become known as "National Guard Day". On February 17th 1960 Captain Clifford Hennessee became Commanding Officer from Captain JF Anderson who left due to health reasons three weeks earlier after being named Commanding Officer for all Army Reserve Officers stationed in Glendale Community College (ARC). After Captains Hennessee & Anderson's departure Captain Claude Shear assumed command from Captain Shear until he retired on July 30th 1968 due to age retirementmontonation program - leaving command vacant for nearly two years! Commander Dave Prendergast took command effective September 14th 1968 replacing Commander Prendergast who resigned due to health issues nine days later after leading his unit through successful combat operations against Viet Cong insurgents near Tay Ninh Province border! Lieutenant Colonel Don Trotti assumed command effective November 9th 1978 following Colonel Trotti’s successful deployment into Cambodia working under United States Embassy staff component Operation Eagle Claw! Lieutenant Colonel Trotti served until his death due injuries received while performing duty September 23rd 1980 while leading elements along Cambodian-Lao Border during operation “Liberator”! This event marksglendales first full time commander with military experience!!! Lt Col Trott will forever be remembered as one of our most decorated NGC commanding officers!!!

Glendale, California is a city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The population was 71,193 at the 2010 census. It has been home to Hollywood and other entertainment industry businesses since before it was incorporated as a town in 1887. The first people to live in what is now Glendale were Indian traders who had set up their homes on the Chisum Rancho Santa Anita near present-day Glendale Boulevard and Western Avenue in 1847. The first white people to arrive were prospectors from Nevada led by John Sutter, who discovered gold near present-day Pasadena in 1848. In 1850, Glendale became part of the newly formed San Francisco County and was named after Governor David Hahn of California. In 1857, Los Angeles County was created from part of San Francisco County and included Glendale as well as much of Orange COUNTY. In 1870, when Pasadena became an independent city, it removed most of its residents east of South Street (now Vine Street) to make room for new development around what is now Downtown LA. This left Glendale with essentially just a few hundred inhabitants until 1880 when it annexed parts of Northridge and Arcadia
