Glendora is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 23,872 at the 2000 census. The city is part of the Glendale, Arizona Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Glendora were members of the Spanish Mission Santa Ana de Anza in 1769-1770. From 1792 until 1821 it was part of Mexico before becoming a United States territory in 1848. The discovery of oil and gas in Herefordshire and Southern California during World War II led to the growth of Glendora as anindustrial center and major employer. In recent years, however, there has been significant redevelopment taking place around its downtown core with new restaurants, hotels and other businesses opening up along Paseo de la Reforma Street between First Avenue and Monterrey Road.

Glendora is a small town in Los Angeles County, California, U.S.A., located on the San Gabriel River about 25 miles east of downtown LA. The population was 23,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Burbank-North Hollywood area and is served by Glendora Unified School District. The first white people to settle in what is now Glendora were prospectors who found gold and silver near what is now Glendale Boulevard and Western Avenue in 1849. They named their new settlement after General James Harker's Rancho Santa Anita near present-day Pasadena, California (the old name for Glendale). By 1860, settlers had started to arrive from all over Southern Californias as railroads became available to carry goods northward. In 1861, the first post office opened in Glendora with four residents named Fenton, Herring, Howells and Winslow; it remained open until 1903. In 1873–1874 an act of Congress designated the land around present-day Glendale Boulevard and Western Avenue as Indian Territory for the purpose of giving US citizens living on reservations access to land west ofLOS ANGELES without paying taxes on their holdings; this was known as "Equal Rights territory". The lands south ofGlendale Boulevard were not included in this designation because they had been agricultural land that farmers could use for grazing purposes only. During World War II many Japanese Americans lived in or near Glendora due to its proximity to LAX Airport which was used as a concentration camp during World War II when millions of Allied POWs were held captive by Japan
Glendora was founded in 1887 by J.L. Glendora as a small town on the San Gabriel River. The community grew rapidly, and by 1907 it had reached its present size. In 1916, the city of Glendora was incorporated, and the name changed to honor James L. Glendora, Sr., its first mayor. The city is now part of Pasadena.
