Glendora is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 68,541 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in San Bernardino County after Riverside. The name Glendora comes from the Spanish word "glenda" meaning "a kind of olive." The first settlement in what is now Glendora was made by Mormon settlers in 1848 and it was named Forneyville after J.D. Forney, one of the founders of Salt Lake City. In 1853, a post office called Glendora was established and served until 1875 when it was renamed to honor General George Armstrong Custer who had been killed in battle two years earlier while serving with Ulysses S. Grant's army during the Mexican-American War. In 1906, General James Fenton donated land for a public school system which would eventually become Orange High School (later Huntington Beach High School). The city's first high school opened for students on November 1, 1907 at 10th and University streets under the name Huntington Park High School. On October 9, 1912 – just weeks before his death – Mayor John Fritchey dedicated new Chain Reaction Stadium which became home to both Orange County Marines and local high school football teams as well as hosting several events including the 1916 Summer Olympics which were won by America over Europe 1024 yards from where he stood

Glendora is a small town in Riverside County, California. The population was 6,851 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Riverside and southeast of Glendora Hills. The first permanent settler in what would become Glendora was George Hearn who arrived in 1847. He founded a post office in 1848 and opened a store. In 1850, he married Eliza Phillips and moved to Glendora where they raised their children. They later sold their business and bought land for a gristmill which they operated until 1861 when it burned down. They then built a home which still stands today. In 1865, John Hennessey arrived with his family from Illinois and started farming here also becoming the first postmaster here in 1866. Hennessey's heirs continued to farm here until 1888 when they sold the land to Jens Müller who built a sawmill here that continues to operate today (Müller Mill). Jens Müller donated part of his mill property to Glendora High School in 1912 as part of its construction program which began with funds provided by him and other donors including Harry Chandler who had been mayor of Los Angeles at the time. The school now offers programs for students from pre-kindergarten through12th grade along with adult education classes, an art gallery, music room, science lab and library/conference center throughout its curriculum│In 1916-1917 Glendora absorbed part of neighboring unincorporated community of Atascadero into its boundaries ─ making it one big municipality │In 1942 when World War II began most of Southern California were under occupation by Japan │ 1945 - 1951 When Northern California came under occupation by America following Japan's surrender these boundaries changed again │Until recently much of this area has been agricultural lands allowing considerable development but there has been some interest in reopening parts of downtown which have yet to be developed│TodayGlenda
