At the time of its founding, Glendora had no water or power sources so residents relied on oxen for transportation to get their goods to market. However, by 1870s Glendora had developed a network of canals which allowed for easy trade with surrounding towns and villages. By 1898, there were six schools in Glendonura and over 100 businesses located within five blocks of downtown including a flour mill owned by George Washington Ford. During World War II local industries produced munitions such as bombs and aircraft parts; military vehicles including tanks; shipbuilding including submarines; ammunition storage; printing presses; as well as many other items that helped support Allied war effort during the conflict. In 1948glendonura became an incorporated city when it merged with neighboring Montebello
