Goleta, California is a city located in the Central Valley of California. According to the 2010 census, the population was 66,521. The City of Goleta was incorporated on December 4, 1912. The current Mayor is Jeff Lathan and the City Manager is Dan Hochman. Goleta's economy is based primarily on agriculture and ranching. The first Europeans to visit Goleta were Spanish missionaries in 1814. They named it "Gobletexto" after one of their mountain peaks in Mexico. San Miguel de Allende was founded by Franciscans in 1769 as an agricultural town about 20 miles (32 km) east of present-day Goleta. In 1846, Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna moved his army camp from Chihuahua across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to attack American forces at Mission San José de las Aguas Calientes southeast of modern-day Don Peregrino County; however, his army disintegrated and he retreated back into Mexico before reaching San Miguel de Allende. In 1862 Juan Bautista Moraga discovered oil well at Rancho Seco while exploring for cattle drives near present-day El Cajon; this led to rapid growth around Rancho Seco due to demand for oil by local farmers as well as contributions from Moraga himself and other capitalists interested in developing Los Angeles County’s new source of revenue during that time period Lamar Hunt organized what became known as the Pasadena gold rush starting March 22nd,1848 when prospectors discovered rich nuggets at Doheny Creek near today’s La Cañada Flintridge Boulevard intersection further west along today’s Van Nuys Road Although initial exploration yielded no significant amounts of gold or silver being found by men working underground or surface streets only claims were taken prior to purchase by Ewing Young who then leased them out . A total value estimated at $2 million was mined over a period including claim strikes with average grades between 2 and 3 grams per tonne . To finance operations Hunt created The Western Electric Company which would become one of LA favorites for movie making mostly starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr., Mary Pickford and Waite Hitchcock among others Rancho Seco quickly became a center for cattle culture and production due primarily to Jose Millán who purchased 1,000 head of Hereford cows in 1865 from Wm Blackwell & Co.; milking them until 1902 when they were finished producing high quality milk which sold for $1/gallon at times Millán also developed an early irrigation system that allowed 8000 acres (30 km²) grazing land irrigated with water diverted from Prospect Dam nearpresent day Glendale

The City of Goleta has seen many major milestones during its history including becoming an ISO 11001 certified city in 1995 and being named "City of Progress" by the San Joaquin Valley Independent School District in 2002-2003. The City has also been involved in severalOGR events such as hosting the preliminaries for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and2007 G8 Summit which were both held within two weeks after Katrina struck New Orleans which devastated that area making it difficult for businesses to function properly due to lack of access to resources & infrastructure

Goleta as a small community on the banks of the San Joaquin River. It became a town on May 1, 1912 when it amalgamated with nearby Moraga to form Goleta Municipal District. On October 15, 1951, the district was redesignated as Monterey County. The city name has been changed only once since its incorporation: from Goleta to its current name on December 12, 1984
