The bar served a small selection of coffee beans from local roasters and was located on Main Street in Goleta. In the early 1920s, Don Andres opened his own roastery and bought a large share of the beans from Mr. Koffee's Coffee Shop on Capitol Hill in Seattle. In 1928, Don Andres and his brother-in-law Larry Beattie founded their own company - Don Andres Coffee Company - which served coffee until 1984. The first store to offer drip-coffee service was Café Dojo in 1961. Over time more stores followed suit – including Starbucks®, Dunkin'Donuts®, Peet's®, Caribou Coffee®, and Joe's Pizza Place® - making Goleta one of the world's leading microbreweries. The community was founded in 1887 by George Cabot Lodge and his wife who named it after the Spanish word for "gorge." The first post office opened in Goleta on November 17, 1888. In 1939 Goleta became part of the San Bernardino County government and grew rapidly with new development. In 1969 Goleta voters passed a resolution declaring that they would not recognize the authority of any other county within their borders no matter how large or populous. This defiance of county boundaries was an important factor in its growth as a small town into a major city over the next few decades. In 2000 Goleta voters approved Measure W which repealed all but 1/2 of the previous zoning regulations that had governedgoletacounty since its incorporation fifty years earlier. Today, Goleta is one of Southern California's most diverse communities with populations ranging from retirees to young professionals. At that time there were only three buildings in village- one store and two residences which are now gone due to development over the years including: ranches, farms and hotels which have made Golettagrove one of Northern California’s most popular tourist destinations during summer months. growth continued until 1939 when annexation by San Bernardino County resulted in an increase in population making it necessary for GOLETA to annex neighboring towns such as Encinitas (1939),Rancho Mirage (1941) and Jurupa Valley (1945). Extensions were also made to GOLETA southward into OrangeCounty resulting in today’s City Of Irvine annexed by GOLETA on October 1st 1959 while unincorporated portions still comprise Riverside County including Corona del Mar (1951), Camarillo(1960)and Northridge(1965).
