The Grand Terrace Coast Guard Station was established in 1912 as the first Federal law enforcement agency dedicated to the protection of inland waterways. The station has been manned by both Coast Guard personnel and civilian volunteers ever since. In 1924, the present day Headquarters building was built on land donated by Mrs. Lillie Broughton. The original barracks were constructed of hickory wood and served as a base for patrols along the entire coast from Redondo Beach to Seal Beach. In 1969, when Grand Terrace became part of San Diego County, the station became responsible for all law enforcement activity along the entire county line. Today, Coast Guard personnel continue to provide law enforcement services within San Diego County while also providing support to local fire departments and other public safety agencies. The station is one of only a few Federal agencies in California that offers its members a full range of benefits including paid vacation days, medical care, retirement plans and special discounts on government-issued products and services. Today, Coast Guard Station Grand Terrace employs over 100 officers and civilians who provide essentialicative service to residents throughout San Diego County each weekday morning through nightfall; they offer an array of programs which include: emergency response; Search & Rescue; Traffic Control; Signals Intelligence Collection/Analysis; Law Enforcement Training; Naval Gunfire Support Group operations ; Drug interdiction/counterdrug activities ; hazardous materials response ; environmental restoration . 1) From 1912 until 1969 when it became part of San Diego County (and then again from 1975-1992), Grand Terrace Coast Guard Station operated under jurisdiction of the United States Customs Service . 2) On 1 July 1992 however, with passage of Proposition 187 (a state ballot measure that repealed most federal laws), all functions at GTCS were transferred back to the National Park Service effective 1 January 1993 . 3) Headquarters building currently houses both the Department’s Operations Center (OPC) - which provides command authority for all aspects of mission-related function - as well as five patrol cars used for traffic control during administrative functions such as records management , photo ops or disasters whenever needed 5 Marine Patrol Squadron One operational units located primarily at Coronado Naval Air Station with six helicoptersOperations are scheduled every two weeks alternating weekends with rotations between Marine Patrol Squadron Five at Dana Point NAS Offshore Pier #5 & Helicopter squadron Two located at Oceanside Harbor off shore

The first post office in Grand Terrace was established in 1887 and closed in 1899. The current post office opened on October 15, 1998. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 7,471 people residing in Grand Terrace Town Center. Of these, 3% were Hispanic or Latino of any race; 1% were foreign born; and 98% spoke English as their first language. In terms of age demographic breakdowns (by gender), 79% were under the age of 25; 5% were aged 65 or over; 4% were between 50 and 64 years old; and 2% had retired from paid employment within five years previous to the census date. There was no Native American or other minority population living in Grand Terrice when it incorporated as a municipality on November 6, 1959
