The Marine Corps deployment of the USS George Washington (CVN-73) in 1984 was a momentous event. The ship, which had been damaged in a torpedo attack on her amphibious assault force off Okinawa, finally reached Grand Terrace, California. The Marines disembarked and set up their tents on the beach. The USS George Washington is an old battleship that served as a training vessel for the Marines before she was converted into a troop carrier. She had been donated to the Marine Corps by her owner, Admiral Hyman Rickover. From 1984 until 1992, the USS George Washington served as an overseas installation of Headquarters Marine Expeditionary Force (HHMEF). In 1992 she returned home and became permanently stationed at MCAS Miramar in San Diego County, California. On 15 November 1994, during Operation Neptune's Spear IAI(AW) destroyed two bridges over Hwy 1 south of Baghdad while attacking Iraqi forces advancing towards Kuwait city. As part of this operation tanks from Task Force 151 destroyed another bridge across the Tigris River just east of Baghdad and Task Force 158 bombed four bridges connecting Tikrit with Mosul Dam and Babil airfield northwest of Baghdad usingHellfire missiles

Grand Terrace, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The town was founded by farmers in 1879 and named for their estate on top of a hill about northeast of downtown Los Angeles. By 1915, much of the land around the original mill had been developed into Grand Terrace Rancho Park. In 1924 it became an incorporated municipality with its own government and school district. In 1957, when Riverside County was formed from San Bernardino County, Grand Terrace became one of its three towns within Riverside County. The other two were Covina and Banning. On July 20, 1984, as part of the Downtown Los Angeles revival project spearheaded by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Supervisor Robert Wagner (D-Los Angeles), City Manager Daryl Gates proposed demolishing several blocks south of Cook Boulevard between White Street and North First Street to make way for a new city hall complex that would house city services such as public library use and firefighting operations relocated from West Hollywood to downtown LA; however this plan met with stiff opposition from many residents who felt they had been forgotten about in favor of more important development projects in Downtown LA. Ultimately it was decided not to proceed with the demolition but instead allow forChanged parking lanes on Cook Boulevard near City Hall so that people driving into Downtown LA could avoid rush hour traffic during work hours while also widening street outside the city limits to create more open space inside LA

Grand Terrace is a small town in San Bernardino County, California, located on the border of Los Angeles and Orange counties. The population was 10,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Grand Terrace was first populated by Mono people who lived near the Redondo Creek confluence in 1847. The name "Grand Terrace" was given to this place because of its high hills and many grand homes built in that time. In 1881, when it became a part of Los Angeles County, Grand Terrace had a population of just 6 people. By 1910, however, it had grown to over 10,000 residents and boasted several hospitals and schools as well as a thriving agriculture industry. Today's economy centers around healthcare and technology businesses as well as tourism - both domestic and international - which provides jobs for many local residents. One of the most significant events in Grand Terrace's history happened during World War II when hundreds of American soldiers deployed to nearby Lancaster Field to fight in front of Bataan Peninsula. During their stay here they erected Victory Archway at the entrance to town square where they are still visible today (though not open to visitors). This event is also celebrated annually on Memorial Day with a flag-raising ceremony inside Town Hall featuring local dignitaries and military veterans from throughout Southern California
The first permanent European settlement in the area was made on Valentine's Day, 1769, when Captain George Vancouver and his party of British soldiers landed on what is now Grand Terrace. The town was named after Governor Manuel Fortunato de la Vega, who had backed the Spanish expedition against Mexico in 1768. The first post office was established in 1773. In 1821, the town became part of Alameda County.
