A detachment of the United States Volunteers was raised and given to the city of Grand Terrace for services in the Mexican-American War. The volunteers were later merged with Company H, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment (Californian) and reorganized as Company G, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment (Californian). In 1898, members of Company G were transferred to Company LRR at Stockton for service in the Spanish American War. They were again reorganized as Company G1B during World War I before being consolidated with other companies and redesignated continental infantry regiment No. 4 (Grand Terrace), which became part of the 2nd Infantry Division on November 15th 1917. The division was disbanded on October 28th 1920 and its troops were absorbed into other divisions or brigades.
Grand Terrace, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 7,570 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Fresno County and is bordered by Stockton to the north, Bakersfield to the south, and unreachable hills to the west. The name "Grand Terrace" comes from its location on a high plateau overlooking downtown Fresno. The original settlers were Italian immigrants who arrived in 1853 during the Gold Rush and named their settlement after their native country—the "Terre del Fuego" or "Island of Fire." In 1872, an Anglo-Saxon settler named John C. Frick bought land in Grand Terrace for $10 per acre; he built a ranch house there that still stands today. Over time, other families also moved into this area and developed businesses such as grocery stores, lumberyards, restaurants, schools, and hospitals. Today's community began developing in earnest when school districts between Fresno and Bakersfield merged in 1986; it was then that development officials decided to build a new school complex on what was once farmland outside of town limits. Construction started in 1988 and finished two years later; today Grand Terrace School District #1 has over 150 students enrolled in grades K-12. The economy of Grand Terrace is primarily based on agriculture with some manufacturing capabilities as well; local businesses include Wacoal Inc., which manufactures felt hats for sporting events; locally made bourbon whiskey is also produced here. There are several grocery stores (Granite Grocery Cooperative being one), convenience stores (Cabela's being one), as well as three post offices: One serving both towns together as well as parts of Stockton County; another serving just inside town limits within Fresno County; while another serving part of Bakersfield County beyond its borders The nearest Interstate 10 exit is about 15 miles away from town while Interstate 580Exit 20A/20B are about 25 miles each away respectively

Grand Terrace is a town in the Inland Empire of California, located in the Antelope Valley region. It was established in 1887 by Midwestern farmers who were displaced by the coming of the railroad. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. The town is located on Grand Central Avenue, which bisects San Bernardino County and enters Orange County just south of Interstate 10. The name "Grand Terrace" likely comes from two local branches of the Humboldt River: one flowing east to west and another running north-south. These two forks created natural barriers that made for fertile agricultural land. According to United States Census Bureau reports from 1870 to 2000, the population of Grand Terrace has fluctuated greatly; it peaked at 11,814 during World War II and then declined gradually until its current level of 5,471 in 2010. However, according to legend (or folklore), when a settler named George Washington arrived in 1887 he found an area with high cliffs overlooking both waterways complete with substantial trees and wildflowers - perfect for his grazing operations on property now within city limits. At first he called this new place "Sand Hill". Over time, as other settlers arrived and began settling around him, they all adopted their favorite nicknames or shortened forms thereof: "East Side", "West Side", etc., until finally we got down to our present day names: "Mountain View" and "Antelope Valley". The original town site lay within what is now downtown Grand Terrice - between Seventh Street (now First Street) on the east side and Second Street (now Market Street) on the west side - bounded by Fourth Avenue (now I-10) on the north, Sixth Street (now State Route 138) on the south, Market Place Boulevard on the east side (later part of US 101), and Menard Road across from today's park entrance along I-10/State Route 138. As development pressures increased during World War II there was much growth potential for housing near military bases such as Riverside Army Air Field; accordingly developers built thousands of homes between 1940-1945 primarily along Seventh Street between First Avenue and Third Avenue with accompanying shopping malls nearby including Imperial Mall which became known as Northridge after Nordhoff Broadcasting Company purchased most of Southern California TV station KNBC from Hearst Corporation in 1961. Of particular interest are several buildings still standing today including Eastern European Restaurant & Bakery building #2 dating back to 1918 which has been preserved as Grandview Court Apartment Hotel since 1984 while adjacent Beaux Arts Revival style home number 8 also remains standing although used only intermittently as a residence due to its age but still contains many features typical of Post-WWII developments including modern plumbing facilities
The original grand Terrace development was a group of 12 homes built by banker and philanthropist Sam Shields in 1884. The homes were designed in the Italianate style, with red-brick walls, green shutters, and elaborately carved stone trim. Shields also developed a large garden on the property which served as an early example of suburban living. In 1915, the then-president of Paramount Pictures Harry Cohn purchased the land from Shields and began developing it into one of Hollywood's most prestigious addresses. Over time, Cohn added additional residences and businesses to Grand Terrace until it became one of Hollywood's most popular neighborhoods. In 1961, MGM sold its holdings in Grand Terrace to developer Jack Warner who modernized and renamed it Warner Bros. Studio Street. In 1976, Warners merged with Time Warner Inc., creating what is now Comcast Corporation. The name continued to be used as part of the company's corporate identity until 2000 when it was changed back to Paramount Pictures Corporation
