The National Guard in California has a long history dating back to 1846. The first national guard unit in California was organized on December 15, 1846, when the United States Congress authorized the organization of companies of rifle and artillery men for service in the Mexican-American War. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln called for a 1,500-man national guard regiment to be raised in California. The regiment was not formed and it wasn’t until 1898 that the state adopted the term “national guard” as its official name. From 1898 to 1906, there were two different Governors of California – Franklin D. Roosevelt and William Howard Taft – who both assigned members of their state’s military forces to duty with federal troops during World War I and World War II respectively. However, they all agreed that Grand Terrace would remain an unincorporated community until May 1st, 1942 when Governor Earl Warren designated it as part of Los Angeles County pursuant to article V of theCalifornia Constitution establishing county government by area self-government. On July 16th, 1941 Grand Terrace became Camp Grant Army Airfield which saw combat during World War II as part of General George Smedley Butler’s Third Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force Eighth Air Force: 553rd Bombardment Group (H), 514th Troop Carrier Squadron (HC), 498th Bombardment Squadron (CB) & 530th Fighter Squadron (F). After hostilities ceased on September 2nd 1945 Camp Grant reverted back to civil use as an airfield providing instruction at UCLA before being closed down on October 15th 1946 with all aviation operations ended within three months.- hereafter known as Laughlin AFB

Grand Terrace, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is located about 21 miles (33 km) east of Fresno and about 38 miles (61 km) south of Stockton. The name "Grand Terrace" comes from the fact that it is located on two high ridges overlooking both San Joaquin River and Yosemite National Park. The first European to visit Grand Terrace was José de Alcalá y Gasset in 1827, and he called it La Laguna Grande (The Great Lakes). In 1868, Captain John D. Sloat chartered the brig USS Sacramento to transport goods from Monterey Bay to Fort Point on Grand Terrace Creek. In 1876, an agricultural society was organized at Grand Terrace by George Halsey Goodrich with the goal of improving soil quality for growing crops. The society developed a successful irrigation system that has been used by farmers ever since. A post office was established at Grand Terrance in 1896; it continued operation until 1907 when it moved to nearby Turlock. In 1906, a new water tower was built on Summit Avenue in order to provide better water service to the community. That same year also saw the installation of a first generation municipally-owned electric light plant which began providing electricity to Grand Terrace residents in 1909. A fire destroyed most of the businesses in downtown Grand Terrace on May 8th, 1932; however, most families were able to rebuild quickly due to their strong community spirit and willingness to help one another through rebuilding efforts as well as donations from friends and family members

Grand Terrace, California is a small community located in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1887 by the McKnight family and named for their rancho (ranch). The town grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location on the main route connecting Los Angeles with San Bernardino and nearby towns. Grand Terrace reached its peak of population around 1910 and declined thereafter. Today, it has a population of about 100 residents. The first permanent settler in what is now Grand Terrace was Isadore McKnight, who arrived from Canada in 1867. His brother-in-law, John Sutter, started farming there in 1870. By 1880, most of the area had been acquired by John Cohan, who sold land to individuals and businesses that developed into the town of today’s Grand Terrace. In 1865–1866 James Irvine built his first home on some property he purchased near present-day Redlands; Irvine would become one of the leading merchants and developers in town. During World War I (1914–18), local soldiers were called to serve in various theaters including France and Italy; many produced artworks as part of their military service or donated them back to society after they returned home.
