However, one unit stayed until 1951 when it disbanded due to budget cuts. That same year saw the arrival of the U.S Air Force Academy at nearby Wright-Patterson Airport as part of Project Mockingbird - an effort by then President Truman to bring American college students home for summer vacation abroad (something that had not been done since World War I). As part of Project Mockingbird, Grassy Valley became home to two USAF fighter planes – Kirtland AFB's P-47 Thunderbolt and Bentwaters RAF's Hurricane Mk V – while also serving as a training ground for airmen from all over America. In 1905, GrasValley became an incorporated municipality with a population of about sixty residents; it had no school district or fire department then but drew its water supply from underground wells drilled by George Hargrave while he served as mayoralty candidate for Kern County seat on the board of supervisors during those years; he won that election with more than seventy percent of the vote against two other candidates who were also running for office on November 3rd due to lack of ballots counted at that time!
