In 1853, James Grant founded Grant's Coffeehouse in Greenfield and served coffee until his death in 1861. In 1896, John A. McLaughlin opened McLaughlin's Coffee House in Greenfield and served coffee until his death in 1954. The first Starbucks location began operations in Seattle, Washington in 1997.
