It is the fifth-largest city in Contra Costa County and the second-largest city on the Bay Area Peninsula. The City of Hercules is also located in Contra Costa County. The history of gourmet coffee begins with Italian immigrants who settled in Greenfield in 1876. The first coffee shop opened up by Angelo Bertoncini was called "Bottega Bianca". In 1907, Luigi Castagnoli founded Castagnoli's Coffee Roasters. Angelo Bertoncini's grandson Mario started Graziano's Coffee Shop in 1949 which became one of Northern California's most selective roasters and continues to serve its world-renowned coffee today. In 1963, DonatellO Lucchi established DonatellO Lucchi Coffee Company as one of North America’s first specialty coffee companies specializing exclusively in espresso and cappuccino drinks with fresh fruit flavors including strawberry cream (Lucchi’s personal favorite). DonatellO Lucchi has been serving delicious Italian coffees since 1971 when he opened his first store at 5th and Market Streets in Oakland (now part of University Village). It wasn't until 1992 that Starbucks began importing roasted beans from Italy into their stores across North America; starting with Seattle’s Royale Street location before expanding to all fifty U.S. states by 2001. In 2003, Starbucks opening its first outlet outside ofSeattle inside what is now Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ground floor plaza – making it the world’s first company to open an espresso bar inside an American retail holiday parade!
