Since then, Grover Beach has experienced several waves of growth with newcomers arriving each decade that have helped continue their legacy of quality coffee production. In 2016, Nestle Purina announced plans to close their labs located in Pasadena and Northridge while they focus onHQ brand operations in Guatemala City and Monterrey Mexico; these closures will impact over 1,000 jobs across five cities worldwide. Grover Beach, California is located on the Southern California Coast. The town was named for Grover Cleveland who was then the Mayor of Philadelphia. Grover Beach has a population of 24,000 people and is considered to be one of the most popular beaches in Caliornia. The first inhabitants of Grover Beach were Native Americans who hunted and gathered seafood in the area around present-day Grover Beach. In 1825, Captain George Vancouver explored the coast from San Diego to Santa Barbara and came across a small community called Laguna de la Vieja just north of Grover Beach. The local Indians traded goods with Vancouver and he described the area as being “healthy looking” He also noted that there was plenty of oil wells nearby but no humans living there because they were afraid that Spanish pirates would attack them if they found out about these resources. In 1853, when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill near Coachella Valley, an influx of people started moving to Grover Beach due to its potential for rich gold ores. By 1860, Gruner & Eberhard had developed some land at what is now downtown GroVER BEACH where they built a small mill onshore which processed flour and other grains from ships coming into port. This became known as "the old mill." In 1886, Nikola Tesla moved his company from Niagara Falls to Hawthorne (now Yorba Linda) in Southern California after receiving patents for inventions related to alternating current electricity generation and transmission systems. Tesla started work on his Wardenclyffe Tower in 1911 but died before it could be completed or opened for use as a commercial tower.
