The Grover Beach National Guard was created on August 29, 1916. It was the result of a merger of the two local guard units. The original unit had been organized in 1909 and named the Pacific Coast Defense Unit. The new unit was first stationed in Oakland and then moved to Grover Beach in 1916. The Grover Beach National Guard has served as part of the California military since 1912. In 1942, it was reassigned to within the United States Army Air Forces as an arm of Strategic Bombing Command. From 1943-1945, it served as part of Ninth Air Force in Europe and from 1946-1948, it served with Tactical Air Command during the Korean War. Grover Beach is a small town in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific coast of Northern California. The town's name comes from its founder, Grover Cleveland Clemens. The first permanent settlement in Grover Beach was made by early Russian immigrants in 1853 when they arrived as part of the Gold Rush to find mineral rights in what is now Marin County. In 1865, Captain George Vancouver sighted land that would later become Grover Beach and named it after him and his crew on HMS Beagle which had explored the coasts of North America during Lord Elgin's Expedition of 1825-1827. After another round of gold discoveries in 1867, many more people settled here including some who operated a steamboat service called "The Golden Fleece" which transported goods between San Francisco and Tiburon (now Sausalito). In 1886 the United States Railway built tracks through Marin County connecting San Rafael with Sausalito while other industries developed here such as shipbuilding and cement production. At this time many families moved toGrove City because there were no real job opportunities available outside of city limits. During World War II Grover Beach became an important strategic location for military airfields due to its close proximity to Sausalito and Tiburon Spitfire Island where fighter planes could be trained before being used against Japan or their allies. As war escalated Grover Beach began to experience significant damage from bombing raids: most notably during the 1945 firebombing which destroyed most of downtown including much of the original Russian-built hotel/apartment buildings dating back to 1850s Pioneer Valley Shopping District . Many businesses within walking distance were also destroyed including a number of grocery stores, banks and printing presses etcetera but overall little did any physical damage aside from some minor street repairs over time... until recently! Grover Beach was founded in 1857 by George Grover and his brothers. The Grovers were the first white settlers in California. In 1859, they patented the land for their colony of Klebergs. They named their town after General John C. Fremont, who had explored and conquered California a year earlier. The town grew rapidly, and by 1865 it had a population of over 100 people. By 1870, Grover Beach had become a small city with a population of around 1,500 people. One of the main things that made Grover Beach so successful was its water supply: it had an excellent canal system that allowed goods to be transported easily from ship to house
