Since her commissioning, every USS Constitution has been given away as a gift to someone or something special within the Naval Service or military community. The USS Constitution Museum is housed aboard her namesake ship and annually hosts an event called “A Greeting from American Sailors: A Night of Complimentary Beers and Appetizers” which features Destroyer Squadron One sailors presenting gifts to guests below decks. This year’s event will be held Friday, November 16th from 6pm-9pm at the Museum’s Indoor Harbor Building #1 located at 342 South King Street Suite 502E in Norfolk, Virginia. The USS Constitution Museum has also hosted various ceremonial events such as Fleet Week involving Marines Corps Reconnaissance Squadron VIMC Unit 514 participating in ceremonies onboard the museum ship prior to their deployment to Guantanamo Bay Cuba; Midshipmen Reception Day/Dinner provided by Commander First Class Michael Foust (USNR), USN; Gunnery Sgt John Gloverdel (USMC) presented with a full set of Mk 46 Mod 2 torpedoes by Rear Adm Harry Halsey (Rear Admiral), USN during Carrier Strike Group Eleven's visit to Singapore; SSgt Jimmy McCulloch giving away 2 dozen Patriotic Cookies while aboard HMCS Regina; and honoring Retired Commodore Raynor "Red" Brown who was awarded a Bronze Star Medal posthumously for his participation in Operation Neptune's Spear-(the Korean War). Each ceremony provides an opportunity for members of the Naval Service or military community who are not physically present when proceedings occur to share a moment with their former commanding officer or teammate through some form of communication mediums like video chat or live webcast streamed from aboard one of our ships! In addition, each year we participate in Fleet Week's gala ball where several hundred guests attend including members of Congress and high ranking officers from our Military Sealift Command along with various charities that perform local functions duringMWC week! In 2016 we sponsored both Sailing Homecoming weekend - Saturday & Sunday - inside NAS Norfolk & had over 100 Sailors gather via SATCOM phone line from all around America for Luncheon outside NRG Stadium!!!
