Grover Beach is a town located on the Pacific coast of California. The population was 9,394 at the 2010 census. The town lies on both the Central Coast and Eastern Shore of California, between San Diego and Oceanside. The original Grover Beach was founded in 1887 by George Washington Carey and his family as a small seaside community on Fortunato Key. In 1916, Grover City was established adjacent to Grover Beach by entrepreneur Edwin Sisson. In 1922, Grover City merged with Grover Beach to form one consolidated municipality. Since its incorporation into a city in 1922, Grover Beach has grown rapidly due to its location on two major tourist attractions: the海灘 (Beach) and Seaweed Caverns tours are offered every day of the year for visitors from all over the world who come to explore some of California's most dramatic coastline. Grover Beach is a town in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Its population as of 2010 was 27. It is part of the Monterrey Metropolitan Area. Grover Beach means "plain beach" in English and was named after George Washington Irving's Clemens Grover on Long Island, New York. The first Europeans to visit Grover Beach were Spanish missionaries who traveled through the area in 1769-1770. The next year, Jose de la Cruz y Arellano sent an expedition from Veracruz that discovered and named several of the rivers draining into the Gulf of Mexico - including Punta Gorda (Gulf of California), San Pedro Bay (San Pedro Strait), and Cabo Rojo (Cabo Rojo Peninsula). In 1819, Captain Juan Crespo set off from Santa Fe with his squadron on a mission to explore the Gulf Coast region and determine whether there was any land beyond Vera Cruz that could be explored by Spain or its vassals. He reported finding nothing but shoals of fish at Punta Gorda but found some land about 20 miles northwest of where Grover Beach now stands: Isla de las Palmas. After mapping out this new island he named it La Isla de Gracias a Dios for God's gracious gift to Spain following their victory over France at Talaquiao in 1814. Commodore John Dunkerley sailed past La Isla de Gracias a Dios on his way upriver to Morelos in 1821 while exploring what would become Texas; he may have been looking for an event which he described as "the most wonderful discovery made during my governorship." In 1880, when Mexican president Porfirio Diaz declared US territory including parts of present-day Monterrey included within Mexican territory under US law, GroVER BEACH became part of NUEVO LEON COUNTY under jurisdiction of US authorities until 1912 when it reverted back to Mexican jurisdiction pursuant to Treaty Agreement #5 between Mexico City and Washington DC signed on April 26th 1912
