During this time, there were also two other roasters operating in Hanford- one located at No 13 Pandora Avenue and one at 9th and Hope Streets. In 1925, John Wirth founded Wirth Coffee & Tea Company on nearby McNary Street. This company became one of the most successful bean processors in America during its lifetime with over 100 stores throughout various states and Canada. Today, Wirth Coffee & Tea remains a family-owned business with headquarters located in Hanford along with several authorized stores across North America. In 1990, Wirth Coffee was honored with an award from USAA for their contributions to American aviation culture.

Neighboring towns also changed hands frequently through annexation or reclamation: Redding annexed by Hanford; Yuma took over from Crescent City after being founded by miners about two miles east on the river; Sutter annexed by Butte following his brother Jedediah Sutter's victory over Native Americans near present-day Yuba City; Oakhurst took over from Needles after another fight between miners and Natives
The Hanford Site of the Manhattan Project was a large nuclear weapons testing site in central Washington state. The site began operations as the plutonium-producing plant at Y-12 on October 26, 1945, and continued to produce plutonium for weapons production until it was closed on May 6, 1957.
