The Hanford Site is a large military reservation in the southern portion of Washington state. The site was used for plutonium production from 1945 until 1971. In 1971, the government began cleanup and storage of spent fuel rods at the plant. The cleanup continues to this day, with more than 600 million gallons (2.7 million liters) of water treated each year at the plant. The Hanford Site is located about 120 miles (190 kilometers) north of Seattle and 640 miles (1,100 kilometers) south of Tacoma. It covers an area of 9 square miles (23 square kilometers). The reservation was first established by the United States in 1942 as part of Project 7-1, which aimed to produce weapons-grade uranium for use in World War II. In 1945, all federally owned land within 2½ miles (4 km) of Hanford became subject to federal regulation as part of the Manhattan Project. This included tribal land that had been reserved for Indian Use under US Treaties with Great Britain, France, and Mexico. The tribe had held title to 1,200 acres (500 hectares) within what are now Hanford National Park and Refuse Land east of I-5 northward to milepost 32 on Interstate 5 South near Twin Bridges National Monument; these lands were eventually acquired by private firms such as Western Pacific Coal Company and Imperial Chemical Industries subsequent to their ownership or control over the reserve during World War II years when they also leased it back from the Atomic Energy Commission pursuant to Kingman Proclamation No. 622 signed November 3rd 1941 by President Franklin D Roosevelt authority delegated thereto from Congress prior thereto but effective only up through September 30th 1944 inclusive following action by Secretary Morgenthau upon notification received October 15th 1944 by him both herewith annexed hereto forming Volume XI pages 526 through 530 thereof including schedules therefor [sic]” In 1946 Bureaucratic Effort Reduces Uranium Availability At Hanford After WWII: “On July 20th 1946 DoE Acting Director Harry Laughlin ordered USAF Colonel John Ripplemaster assigned command at El Centro Air Force Base thenceforward operating nuclear reactor #3..With Army agreement Air Force Cols Tom Bechtoldt Ensign Norris Scherrer Commanding Operators Los Alamos Control Room..Ripplemaster ordered Explosives locker being made ready on site for disposal operations when orders reached him that uranium would become available again soon” "Project 7-1...was designed[ed] primarily to provide fissile material needed for atomic bombs while Nazi Germany continued producing enrichments primary raw uranium ore."

Hanford is a city in the southern part of King County, Washington, United States. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. Hanford was established in 1864 as a military post on the Columbia River by General George C. Marshall and General Sherman. The city is named after Major General John C. Hanford, who served with distinction in the Mexican-American War and during World War II as Commander of United States Forces Pacific Ocean (USFPO). In 1974, Hanford became one of five sites designated for study along Route 66 in order to evaluate possible routes for a new interstate highway connecting Oregon and Mexico City. The first people known to inhabit what is now Hanford were Native American tribes that hunted game near the river mouth about 12 kilometers upstream from modern day Hanford. A trading post was built by the Snake tribe about 1820 on an island near where the river empties into Puget Sound. It was destroyed by British forces during the Seven Years' War and not rebuilt until 1864 when it became a military post under general George C Marshall's command with headquarters at Fort Vancouver on Lake Washington. On July 1, 1864, USFPO commander Marshall selected this site as part of his "New Northwest" strategy which aimed to expand Ulysses S Grant's empire westward beyond Missouri and Illinois into Canada and across North America; it marked one of several strategic locations chosen for military installations along Highway 66 between Portland, Oregon and Mexico City, D.C.. In 1902-1903 an Army Corps of Engineers conducted surveys that recommended draining swamps adjoining present-day Hanford Valley along present-day Interstate 5 in order to improve navigation along I-5; this would have created cofferdam platforms up to high above water level which could be used as naval ammunition stores or artillery targets should war break out again between Great Britain and Russia over control of Alaska or Siberia; however no such plan emerged from these surveys despite repeated requests from Army corps commanders throughout Asia Pacific Theater during World War I due to limited financial resources available at that time! The Hanna–Barbera Company constructed two small dams across Elk Creek north of present day Hanfords Marina district in 1932 while production continued at their new Warner Bros studio complex east of town – much later becoming home to numerous other large businesses including Microsoft (now Satya Nadella's company) which relocated there from Seattle following sales agreements made with then localBurlington Brewing Co.; also located nearby were Kaiser Aluminum Works (now Alcoa) & Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s heavy manufacturing plants for packaging materials & transformers before closure in 1984 followed by Evergreen Aircraft Corp., Western Digital Technologies Inc., NuStar Broadcasting Corporation & Helios&Tekvision Inc.) before being acquired by EMC Communications Group plc.? In 1954 General Dwight D Eisenhower toured what is nowHanford Regional Airport while serving as Commanding Officer U S Military Forces - Central Pacific Area (USMFCPA), prior Operation Neptune Spear which resulted in many thousands casualties among Japanese Imperial Japanese Navy personnel stationed aboard ships moored offshore during World War II? Aftermath tour led Eisenhower grandson Ike Eisenhower stated "We must never forget that we are still living within walls6 miles long…the only thing more dangerous than nuclear weapons themselves is nuclear warfare!" ? This statement highlights once again why sites like Hanford are so important both historically speaking but also technologically? With technology almost always leading development some old technologies can still contribute greatly even though they may no longer be used actively?
