This was also the first time that handguns had been allowed in Hawaii gardens since they had been banned in 1905. Hawaiian Gardens, California is a small city located in Kern County, California. The population was 2,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1907 by two brothers named Samuel and Harry Kaua'i. The initial site for Hawaiian Gardens was on Kamehameha Highway just east of present-day downtown Bakersfield. The land that would become Hawaiian Gardens was purchased from the Kaua'i Brothers by John Mengers in 1915 for $5,000 cash and 10 acres (4 ha). Mengers hoped to create a Botanical Garden on the site that would be open to the public and provide "a model of what good garden design should be." Unfortunately, Mengers only managed to build a small greenhouse which served as his home until his death in 1922. However, despite its shortcomings, Hawaiian Gardens did manage to establish itself as a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful landscape and lush vegetation. In 1939 it became an official U.S. Naval Base after being bought by then-Vice Admiral Chester Nimitz with the intent of using it as an airbase for naval operations during World War II. However, due to budget cuts at Navy HQ in Washington D.C., Hawaii Garden's airbase designation fell through and it remained an all- civilian facility until 1947 when it finally gained military status under the Joint Chiefs of Staff's command structure known as United States Forces Far East (USFEE). In 1961 Hawaiians moved into their own municipally created town called Kaua'i Village adjacent to Hawaiian Gardens proper; this area today remains largely unpopulated except for some pineapple plantations operated by local plantation companies/owners who continue to use both Honolulu neighborhood streetscape namesakes while they lease or purchase parcels within Hawaiiana Gardens boundaries subjecting PROPERTY OWNERSHIP TO SPECIAL REGULATIONS AND MANAGEMENT BY THE CITY OF HAWAIIAN GARDENS

Hawaii Gardens is a small, privately-owned cemetery in the city of Hawthorne, California. It was founded in 1892 by Hawaiian settlers as an agricultural plantation and continues to be managed by the descendants of its original owners. The cemetery contains more than 2,000 graves from various parts of Hawaii and adjacent islands. The first burial at Hawaii Gardens took place on November 21, 1892, when seven young Hawaiians who had been brought over as slaves were buried near the now demolished pineapple plantation where they had worked. In 1912, the land that currently makes up Hawaii Gardens was donated to Hawthorne by $5,000 from Hiram Bingham. At that time it was one of Hawthorne's most vibrant communities with many businesses and homes active within its boundaries. However, because of its remote location and lack of infrastructure, Hawaii Gardens struggled to take off until after World War II when donations from local residents began pouring in for new Cemetery maintenance and expansion purposes. As part ofHawaii Garden's centennial celebration in 2012-2013 there was a public exhibition which featured artifacts and photos related to Hawaiian history including photos taken at Honolulu Airport during Waikiki Air Show days in 1959
