Hawthorne is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 18,713 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Contra Costa County and home to the largest concentration of military installations in the Bay Area and Northern California. Hawthorne's history dates back to 1849 when two American officers were stationed here as part of General Bragg's army during the Mexican–American War. In 1853, local citizens voted to annex what is now Concord Township into Hawthorne. Through its annexation efforts, Hawthorne became one of several Californias annexed by San Francisco in 1856. In 1861, Hawthorne was a battlefield during the American Civil War where Union forces under General Winfield Scott attacked Confederate troops under General Robert Ewing. For his heroism on that day, General Scott received the Medal of Honor from Ulysses S Grant. Hawthorne has also been known for its munitions production; starting with gunpowder and later TNT (tritanium dioxide). Today it remains an important industrial center for ammunition manufacturing due to its location near major military bases and distribution centers around the world. The city has also developed significant food production talents including wineries and agriculture; today over 60% of Hawthorne’s commercial sales come from agricultural products alone!

Hawthorne is a small town in Siskiyou County, California, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of Siskiyou National Forest. The community was founded in 1876 by Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife Lucy as a summer home for themselves and their five children. The name "Hawthorne" came from the place where they first saw an American white oak tree while driving down to Yosemite National Park. Hawthorne had been thinking about naming his novel "The Great Gatsby" after that tree ever since he read about it in a book in 1885 while he was living in England. In 1907, the Hawthornes decided to move the community to its present site because of problems with water availability on their original land. They built two reservoirs – one for irrigation and another for drinking – and named them respectively Haworth Lake and Home Pond. In 1923, when California became a state, Hawthorne voted to become an incorporated town. Hawthorne has experienced many changes over its history; during World War II it served as a military training ground used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). Today it is home to several businesses including The Glass House Café and Bistro which serve local produce along with national brands like Starbucks Coffee and Dunkin' Donuts Doughnuts. There are also several agricultural properties within walking distance of the town center that provide fresh produce year-round as well as eggs, milk, cheese, honey, chickens, pigs sow beans etc.. One interesting fact about Hawthorne is that it remains one of only two towns in California without any independent schools (the other being Salinas). This has led to some growth within the community over time - most notably during recent years when parents have started sending their children to nearby schools such as Salinas Valley High School or Monterey Bay Aquarium District's Monterey Bay Campus so they can continue learning even if they don't live near either of those towns anymore!

Hawthorne is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. It is located on the banks of the Colorado River and along its eastern border with Bakersfield. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Hawthorne is part of the Kern City School District. The first people to live in what is now Hawthorne were Indian natives who called it Anza Pueblo. In 1847, General Antonio López de Santa Anna set up a ranch adobe here and named it Rancho San José de los Angeles after himself and his family. The Lopez de Santa Anna Adobe still stands today. In 1865, American prospector John Sutter discovered gold near Hawthorne and named it Sutter's Fort after him and his friends Cesar Chavez and Tom Greenough. From about 1870 to 1880, many immigrants from Mexico lived in Hawthorne because there was no other place to go because of the prejudice against Mexicans at that time. By 1887, all but two of the original settlers had died from disease or accidents on their farmlands adjacent to Highway 99 between Bakersfield and Sierra Vista; only six men still remained living there as of 1910 census data. The first store in Hawthorne was established by Jno Baptiste in 1896 on Main Street (now Sherman Ave.), just east of modern day Hawthorne High School across from the old post office building which has been converted into apartments since then - originally an opera house used by local newspapers during performances (the front facade remains extant). A millinery shop built by Loveland sisters opened nearby on Third Street soon afterwards according as well as several churches including First Methodist Church on Second Street also soon afterward becoming commercial properties with addresses like 116 E Main St., 115 N Nevada Ave., 137 W Broadway etcetera until being torn down circa 1907 when they became classrooms for Mountain View High School later that same year; currently housing a grocery store across from it which became open for business around 1906 when USPost Office moved out westward following the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake/Tsunami which destroyed much of downtown San Francisco including much of Oakland so mail could be transported easily by boat ashore instead having to walk through ruined neighborhoods looking for an address
