In 1915, John passed away at age 80 years old and his widow began running the store alone until her death in 1951. The current owner of the store, Jerry Ostroff III, purchased it from Mrs. Hudsons' estate in 1975. At that time, it was one of only a few remaining guns stores left within commuting distance from Los Angeles proper (the others being Inland Empire Arms & Ammunition on Imperial Avenue). After purchasing the store from Mrs. Hudson's heirship, Ostroff quickly restored it to its former glory as one of Hawthorne's most popular tourist attractions; hosting events such as target shooting competitions and museum tours throughout the year."

Hawthorne was founded in 1887 by George Hawthorne and his brother, Nathaniel Hawthorne. George's sister-in-law, Lucilla Beecher Hawthorne, did much to promote the community and help it become a thriving center for agriculture and commerce. The first post office was established in 1890. In 1923, Hawthorne joined the Antelope Valley Community College district; this affiliation has kept the community connected to its larger educational system ever since. The village contains a few businesses that have been around for many years: such as J P Smith's Hardware (founded 1907), Donahue's Department Store (established 1916), and A Cappuccino Shop (established 1922). Many other businesses were added over time but are no longer operational: such as First National Bank (established 1935) and Safeway (founded 1976). Today, there are several churches in Hawthorne Village including Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church which opened in 1934, Stritch Lutheran Church which opened in 1945, Holy Cross Byzantine Catholic Parish alsoopened in 1945 and Ascension Protestant Episcopal Church which was built in 1951. There are also a few residences scattered throughout the village - most notably on Main Street where there is a duplex dating back to 1928 with three bedrooms and two bathrooms on each floor - as well as one large house that still stands today used by various families over the years including those from Hollywood who would move into town while they filmed their movies here.

This allowed for more development within the small town while also providing city services such as fire suppression and streetlights. Today, much like many other American towns throughout history, Hawthorne has experienced some tough times but has always bounced back stronger than ever before thanks to its dedication to community service and overall friendly attitude towards everyone!
