The United States Air Force's 107th Airlift Wing (107 AACW) is a unit of the USAF National Guard. The wing provideslift support to numerous Federal, State and Municipal Organizations throughout California. Air Mobility Command has jurisdiction over all USAF units located in the Western United States, including the Hayward-based 107 AACW. As one of only six wings within AMC, the wing participates in joint airlift missions with other AMC commands as well as international partners. The history of the 107 AACW begins with World War II when it was activated at Oakland Army Air Field as part of First America Aviation Company. After being redesignated 307th Troop Carrier Squadron in 1948, it served in Korea War as an aerial tanker squadron supporting U.S.-Korean forces from 1948-1950 and 1951-1952. The squadron returned to the United States for refresher training before recommissioning with Boeing C-47 Skytrain aircraft for Southwest Asia In 1953. From 1954 to 1956, the squadron operated Lockheed L-188A TriStar aircraft in Southeast Asia during Suez Crisis; its first deployment being on 14 May 1954 flying a refueling mission from Bangkok to Athens, Greece en route todrop supplies on Egyptian troops fighting against British rule in Egypt.] In 1957 they changed their name to 107 AACW after activation at Holloman AFB and flew Douglas DC-3s until 1959 when they were replaced by McDonnell Douglas DC-9s which continued until 1976 when they turned over ownership back to the City of Hayward]]. ]]In 1977 the wing numbered 40 instead of 107 because 40% of Holloman AFB's active duty was assigned elsewhere due largely to establishment of Permian Basin Defense Region southwest of Albuquerque NM; however 109th Aero Squadron retained control over hangar space on Holloman AFB therefore continuing101st Air Division lineage but without flying capability so 101st became40th Airmobile Wing under baseload command]]]. [It should be noted that those numbers reflect 97% operational use while stationed at Hayward and almost all exercises/multilateral deployments occurred at Holloman AFB...] [Nowadays], most operations take place outfitted with Boeing E8 Global Hawk or Airbus A350 platformFlights are also flown using KC-130H Hercules transports which offer extended range due different engines options along with better altimeter accuracy.]

Some examples of USFET technology achievements include: Joint Terminal Attack Complex (JTAC), which allows allied planes to share data while attacking targets simultaneously; GPS receivers aboard fighters allow themTo precise their attacks; Long Range Strike Bomber (LRSB), which is capable of hitting targets over distances up to 5500 miles away; And Low Altitude Area Defense (LAAD) systems that can shoot down enemy planes below 1000 feet altitude without damage or threat to human life or infrastructure

Hayward was founded in 1868 by George Hayward and his wife, Eliza. The city was named for General David Hayward, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The first post office in Hayward opened in 1870. In 1875, the town of Hayward annexed the City of San Leandro and the village of South San Francisco. In 1896, a fire destroyed most of downtown Hayward. A new downtown was built and the name changed to Hayward Village. In 1938, California State Senator Donald Wickersham proposed that Hayward become an independent city with its own police department and mayor. The proposal failed to receive enough support from residents. In 1950, City Manager John Hickey recommended that the city annex neighboring towns of South San Francisco and Crockett Valley due to their low population density but this proposal also failed to gain approval from residents. After years of inaction by officials at various levels, voters on November 5th Proposition 13 approved annexation of all six villages within the city boundaries as well as Crockett Valley via Measure AA which raised $8 million for infrastructure projects within five years (including a new water treatment plant). This referendum led to increased development within Hayward Village including major retail stores such as Sears and Kmart along with high-rise apartment buildings; however it also led to increased traffic congestion along Interstate 880 because many people were moving into newly annexed areas without taking into account how much travel they would need to do in order to get there

Hayward has been inhabited by the Ohlone People since at least 8500 BC and by the Miwok people since before 1000 AD. The first European to visit Hayward was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 24, 1542 with his crew of five sailors and he named it Nueva Alameda after Captain Alonso de Anchieta who had explored California in 1542-43. From 1868 to 1872, Hayward was part of Donner Party's journey from Sacramento through Sonoma County and into Nevada during the Gold Rush era.
