Hayward is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 54,746 at the 2010 census. It is the 9th most populous city in California and the 7th most populous city in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Hayward also has the largest community of East Bay residents outside of San Francisco. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hayward were Spanish missionaries in 1769. A mission was founded on May 16, 1821 by Father Gabriel Moraga and Franciscan friar Junípero Serra. The mission was known as Parraldejo de la Baja Californía (Parraldejo Way Station). Father Fernando Gomez y Costilla served as its first bishop from 1834 until his death in 1847. In 1853 José Joaquin Moraga became its second Bishop with jurisdiction over all of Contra Costa County including Hayward and Fremont. On March 25, 1886, a group of investors founded the City of Hayward with a 10-acre parcel north of downtown split off from Alameda County and became part of Contra Costa County under then-Governor George Gambrinus’s new statehood initiative. The site for Hayward had been selected by Governor Gambrinus because he saw it as an ideal location for an agricultural center due to its rich soil and ample water resources; however, development did not take hold until after General Mariano Castro's administration created parksland east of Oakland that would become Hayward's core business area during World War II when industrial production shifted from Oakland to nearby Livermore and other sites across Northern California
The Coast Guard has been providing services to the public for over 100 years. On July 27, 1916, the first coast guard station was set up on Long Island. The Coast Guard became a national force after World War II when it was formed as a subdivision of the National Military Establishment. The Coast Guard today operates more than 1,000 stations and providesSearch and Rescue service in addition to other law enforcement activities. In 1923, a commission was established to look into ways that the Coast Guard could be made more efficient. This led to the establishment of the Department of Marine Affairs in 1934 which created jurisdiction over all maritime aspects of coast guard activity including search and rescue, fisheries patrol and protection of coastal areas from smuggling operations. From 1938-1964 there were only eight officers in charge of all coast guard functions; this increased to twenty-four by 1978. In 1984, responsibility for search and rescue (SAR) was transferred from MACVNI to COAST GUARD while commandant status remained with NMES until 1994 when it was transferred back under NMES’ jurisdiction as part of larger unification effort within DOD called “Agency consolidation” Since its inception, COAST GUARD has given many memorable gifts to society through its annual Christmas season donations program which benefits numerous local organizations across America including tsunami relief efforts during Japan earthquake & tsunami crisis in 2011; disaster relief following Hurricane Katrina; hurricane Irma humanitarian work; Red Cross/American Red Crescent Emergency Relief Response Fund support during pandemic A cold winter days special event at New York Aquarium on December 9th It is interesting to consider how these gifts have impacted both individuals and communities throughout our country since 1916 when first stationed here at Long Island City. Hayward is a city located in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 34,183 as of the 2010 census. Hayward was founded in 1868 by John Hayward and named for him. It became an incorporated town in 1896 and a city in 1968. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Contra Costa County were Spanish missionaries who arrived on horseback from San Francisco Bay in 1821. They named the area San Francisco de Asís after the Spanish mission that stood near where the village of Asís now stands. In 1825, another group of Spaniards led by José de Alvarado reached this region and named it Rancho Seco after General José de la Guerra who hadwon fame at Adobe Hill during the Mexican–American War. This land grant covered most of what is now Contra Costa County and included parts of present-day Hayward, Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, Dublin Bayou, Martinez, Danville and Hercules Heights. In 1868 John Hayward found four acres (1 ha) near what is now downtown Hayward and began to build his home there on it. Today's buildings date back to that early days including the old police station which still stands today inside City Hall Building on Castro Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets., The original courthouse building on Main Street between 4th and 5th Streets.,and many other smaller venues over time like amateur boxing matches which were held at various locations around town until 1934 when professional boxing began legal here The modern day history of Hayward begins with its incorporation as a townsite on January 10th 1896 due to then-City Manager Roy Drake's efforts to improve infrastructure for new cities being formed all across California during that era Hayward soon became an important agricultural center due to its location adjacent to two major canals: the Stockton Canal which ran through downtowns throughout most of northern California while also providing water transportation for farmers downstream;[citation needed] while also having access to numerous small rivers that provided irrigation water for agriculture much further north
