The Healdsburg Air Force Museum is home to the world’s first air force deployment gift history. On July 15, 1978, the United States military deployed a Lockheed L-1011 Starliner aircraft to Healdsburg as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. The squadron of C-130 Hercules transports was flown into Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State and unloaded by the plane’s pilots and ground crew. These individuals were tasked with bringing food, water and other supplies to troops in Afghanistan. The gift was significant because it represented a new era for the military. Prior to this time,ift gifts had been limited to items such as cars or watches. The deployment of this plane marked a shift in technology which helped improve relations between our nations during these difficult times.

In 1945, after Japan had been defeated by Allied forces, many of these donations were returned or used for new purchases by American troops stationed overseas. Healdsburg is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 12,752 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pacific coast of California near San Francisco. The Healdsburg area began to be inhabited by Ohlone people about 9600 BC. The Ohlone were a Native American tribe that Range and Humboldt Bay regions of California. They used shellfish from the Monterey Bay as their principal food source. About 1800 AD Spanish traders discovered this region and traded with the Ohlone people for goods such as San Francisco fish and fowl which they brought back to Spain. In 1821 Jose Maria de Altaona discovered oil shale in what is now Healdsburg while exploring for petroleum resources in Northern California. Exploration continued until 1848 when the United States acquired all of California from Mexico under Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. With Mexican ownership came regulations regarding Anglo settlement, so development Selective Takeover Act (1849) allowed only Californian-born citizens to own land in any given community or township except where specifically exempted by law including Healdsburg’s incorporation into Castro Valley on April 14, 1850 albeit with smaller population than present). In 1861 local businessman George Hearst founded an oil refinery near Sonoma County and named it after himself; later he built other properties throughout Northern California including one in Healdsburg which became famous as Calistoga wine country during Prohibition era due to its vineyards producing fine Cabernet Sauvignon wines dating back to 1906 CE On October 15, 1886 John Muir made his first visit to what is now Healdsburg when he walked up Mount Tamalpais from Russian Hill through today’s downtown core following today's route of Telegraph Road then down Government Street past First Congregational Church before turning right onto Hazeltine Way leading eventually out into open ocean beyond today’s shoreline Heather Atherton wrote “A Walk Around Town” (1962), a popular guidebook that chronicled her travels around town over many years starting with her first steps inside today’s doors on Main Street
