The Healdsburg Army Depot was founded in 1907 by Captain Edward Everett Heald and his wife, Mrs. Anna Anderson Heald. The depot was a military storage and distribution center for the local army and navy during World War I. It also became a training ground for new American soldiers during World War II. In 1951, the Healdsburg Army Depot merged with the California National Guard's campgrounds division to form the California National Guard Armory annex of the California State Capitol Building in Sacramento, CA. In 1957, the armory was moved to San Francisco and renamed Fort Masonarmory (FAM) after then-Governor Jerry Brown's gift to the City of San Francisco. In 1970, FAM was decommissioned and sold to two developers who converted it into an apartment complex named The Armory at Fort Masonarmory. On November 3rd, 1988, General Motors donated four Cadillac Fleetwood sedans as gifts to both armies of Northern California in commemoration of GM's role in supporting military service throughout history. The cars were stored at CASA de Campo until they could be brought across country and put on display at Fort Masonarmory where they remain today as part of Soldiers' Museum & Art Gallery collection
