The Healdsburg Area Museum of Art has a rich military history. The museum’s collection of artifacts, books, and art dating back to 1852 includes items related to the California Gold Rush. One of the most well-known items in the museum’s collection is an American flag that was flown over Coronado Station during the Gold Rush. The flag was donated by John Heald, a soldier from Healdsburg who served in the California militia during the gold rush. Another noteworthy artifact from this period is a Colt revolver that was given to Mayor John Daugherty by General Philip Sheridan as part of a gift for Daugherty’s bravery during the Battle of Bear Flag Hill.

The Healdsburg Army National Guard was activated on October 15, 1916. The first unit to be raised in the town was Company A which was organized on December 1, 1916. On July 25, 1917 the town sent a detachment of soldiers to join the California National Guard at Camp Roberts in San Diego County. On November 17, 1917 Healdsburg units joined the United States First World War effort by participating in an artillery bombardment of enemy positions near Arras-Luxembourg. In 1918 Healdsburg residents raised money for war purposes and contributed $2,000 to the Red Cross. On July 10th, 1919 Companies B and C were mobilized for service in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces. On May 3rd 1920 companies D and E were mobilizationed for service with Spain during Spanish Civil War. Both units served until August 1920 when they were mustered out at Camp Bowie Texas. After their discharge from military service company A disbanded on December 31st 1921 while company B continued active until 1923 when it disbanded as well due to lack of volunteers; however Company C continued operations until 1924 when it also disbanded due to lack of volunteers
Healdsburg is an agricultural town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, located within Butte County. The population was 12,562 at the 2010 census. Healdsburg is known for its wine industry and for its annual Healdsburg Festival, which attracts over 100,000 people to the town each year. The first Europeans to explore what is now Healdsburg were French traders in 1769–1770. A small community began to form on the banks of the Tuolumne River about a mile (1 kilometer) east of present-day Healdsburg. The name Healdsburg derives from "haldi" meaning "to hunt." In 1876, when American miner John Sutter discovered gold near healdsburg, he named the settlement after himself and his wife Hilda Sutter. In 1887, Charles Witte developed an irrigation system that allowed farming in a wide area around him including parts of Butte and Colusa Counties adjacent to present-day Healdsburg. Witte also constructed a millrace leading into the Tuolumne River which became one of California's most important waterways during this time period. The town started as a few hundred people living along Witte's canalized stream with their homes built on piles dug into the riverbankide where water could be drawn up under suitable conditions for agriculture; later still some buildings were erected on land acquired from ranchers and farmers who had used it for grazing purposes only. The development of local transportation led to increased trade between Healdsburg and nearby towns through wagon traffic acrosssectioned by miles of dirt roads; horse-drawn wagons continued even into World War II when all trucking stopped due to war restrictions prohibiting large tanks or guns above ground level

Parts of Berkeley and San Francisco also came under Mexican rule before becoming American possessions in 1848. In 1849 David Bakewell established bake ovens at present day baking powder hill near downtown Healdsburg for local farmers to produce their own flour for shipment to Northern California. By 1870 bake oven production had become such that bakeries were being built all around town including in North Beach where they still exist today as bakeryanchors Fenton’s Bakery & Cafe and Baker’s Den
Healdsburg was founded in 1868 by George Heald and named for his father, James Heald. The town grew quickly after it was incorporated as a city in 1875. In the early 1900s, healdsburg became known for its wine industry and enjoyed a period of growth that spanned several decades. However, the economy crashed during World War II and later hit hard with the Recession. Today, healdsburg is a small but vibrant community with several businesses and restaurants doing well despite the tough times.
