The California Air National Guard's Hemet Sector fly-in and fly-out squadron, the 245th Fighter Wing (245 FW), is one of the busiest in the United States. It flies more than 1,000 missions a year, sharing airspace with more than 30 other airfields and squadrons. Air Force pilots from all over the country participated in this annual event that took place at Hemet Municipal Airport on Memorial Day weekend. The unit was founded in 1942 as an Army Air Corps training squadron. In 1951 it became a fighter squadron and by 1957 had become an airfield host unit. Today, the 245 FW is responsible for providing support to two major commands: The U.S. Pacific Command and Twentieth Air Force stationed in Japan. The wing also provides day-to-day operations at Hemet Municipal Airport which supports military personnel and their families who come to visit friends or family during this time of year.

In 1925, however, when Los Angeles was founded as a city and Hemet became one of its first neighborhoods, it quickly emerged as one of the most important economic centers in southern California. Hemet is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 66,827 at the 2010 census. Hemet has been established as an agricultural town by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and became a rural community when the railroad arrived in 1881. It was incorporated as a city on December 1, 1954. Hemet is located on the eastern edge of San Bernardino County nestled between the Simi Hills to the north and Riverside National Forest to the south. The Canyons of Southern California are to the east and west while Mountain View is located to the north. The first inhabitants of what is now Hemet were Mormon pioneers who emigrated from Nauvoo, Illinois in 1847. They would erect log cabins and call their settlement “Hemet” after President George Washington's home state of Virginia which they had also traveled through on their way westward. The Mormons began farming this land around 1800 with large cotton plantations help from Spanish missionaries who came to preach Christianity to these pioneer farmers. In 1881, following completion of the Santa Fe Railroad's mainline through nearby Banning (now Buena Park), many farmers in San Bernardino County decided it would be more convenient if they moved into town so that they could get closer to jobs and supplies available along the railroad line. As a result, Hemet grew rapidly becoming an agricultural town with over 40 businesses employing over 100 people during its heyday including several banks and stores downtown as well as numerous churches and schools. For many years Hemet boasted one of America's highest ranking percentages of female entrepreneurs- almost 60%. In fact, until recently women made up approximately two-thirds of all business owners in America! It wasn't until 1984 when then Mayor John Deasy repealed City charter amendments that incorporation as a city was possible due to lack of support from other elected officials within municipal boundaries at that time including then-County Supervisor Donny Youngbloods whose district included much of downtown Hemet which he hoped would become taxable property once incorporation occurred since it situates itself within city limits like any other municipality). Incorporation did take place however with no less than five successive mayors being reelected without issue each before current Mayor Hana Bui took office in late 2014 uniting all branches into one administration allowing for more efficient decision making across all levels within City Hall thus creating what has come to be known simply as "City Hall".
