Army gift history in Hemet, California began with the arrival of the U.S. Army in 1846. The armys first presence in this city was as a result of the Mexican-American War which took place in 1848. The army bought land and erected a fortification on Indianola Avenue to support their operations in that conflict. The following year, the army moved into what is now known as Battalion #1 Barracks on First Street and Main Street. This building served as Headquarters for many years until it was replaced by Camp Roberts across Main Street in 1907. From 1907-1923, Battalion #1 Armory housed both the Hemet Sheriff’s Department and also an arsenal for storage of arms and munitions for use by the military during peacetime and wartime activities. In 1923, because of budgetary cuts within the army, part of Battalion #1 Armory was transferred to Camp Roberts which became known as battalion #2 Arsenal. In 1949-1950, when Camp Roberts was decommissioned, all remaining equipment from Battalion #1 Armory were transferred to Naval Air Station Miramar which is still used today as an airbase for Navy helicopters flown out of Hemet Municipal Airport!

By 1910, Hemet had a population of 509 people. However, World War I put a stop to alldevelopment until it resumed following World War II whenhemetspecialty industry became shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing due to increased demand for military supplies during World War II With its growing economy came more problems like crime rates which increased during recent decades with little solution being found until 2008 when then Mayor Jerry Sanders created Crime reduction unit within police department that has made significant progress reducing crime rates since then
