The Hemet Coffee Company was established in 1892 by Greek immigrants, Constantine and Theodora Koffi. The company rapidly grew, becoming the largest coffee producer in the area. In 1916, the company merged with the California Coffee Cooperative to form the Hemet Coffee Corporation. In 1952, Hemet Coffee Corporation became a subsidiary of Roasting Society of America (RSA). In 1976, RSA sold Hemet Coffee Corporation to Keurig Incorporated. After Morehead's distribution center closed in 1984, all Hemet-area roasters went through Keurig ownership and marketing. Today there are over twenty-four hemet-area roasters that produce high quality coffee. These roasters include: Bexar Highlands beans from El Paso; Gaviota beans from Ventura; La Mesa beans from Riverside County; Mira Costa valley beans from San Diego County; North Coast Beans from Orange County; Oakville beans from Douglas County; Rancho Mirage assets from Riverside County and Taylor Estates beans from Los Angeles County

Hemet is a small town in southern Kern County, California. As of the 2010 census, Hemet had a population of 539. The first settlement in what is now Hemet was established in 1848 by Father Francisco Santos and brother José Gomez. The name "Hemet" comes from the ancient Maya term for "land of milk and honey." The town began as a stage stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. In 1892, the town became an unincorporated community when it was relocated from its original location near Sahuarita to its current site about two miles east of the junction of State Route 66 and County Route 153. The post office at Hemet opened on December 21, 1893. In 1951, cattle were introduced to Hemet and began causing extensive damage to local agriculture. A joint agricultural-cattle operation was initiated with Imperial Valley College in Chico in 1954 to prevention any further damage to local plants and soils caused by cowboys grazing their beef on open range land adjacent to college campuses throughout Southern California. As of the census of 2000, there were 536 people, 187 households, and 131 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,332 people per square mile (565/km²). There were 222 housing units at an average density of 591 per square mile (248/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95% White; 0% African American; 1% Native American; 2% Asian; 3% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 8%.
