They called themselves the European Coffee Company and roamed around town before moving back home to Holland in 1872. In 1875, an American named John Wesley Hardman opened up his own coffee house in downtown Hercules called the Dutch Coffee House. He started roasting his own beans and selling them direct to consumers throughout California. This began what would be known as the Californian Roasting Industry (CRI). From this point forward, there were several large companies that operated within the CRI with various brands such as Dutch Bros., JW Houten & Sons, Krombacher Bros., Mr. Stevens’ Coffee Co., Ewing’s Coffee Co., etcetera. By 1907, it had become so competitive that almost every company had their own brand name synonymous with quality fresh roasted coffee out there in all parts of California! By 1915, sales at these large companies had dwindled considerably due to World War I; however, smaller outfits like Mr. Stevens’ continued operation until 1946 when they closed down completely due to financial troubles

In 1876, a group of entrepreneurs founded the Hercules Coffee and Tea Company in Hercules, California. The company became one of the largest coffee producers in the country. In 1916, Hercules Coffee was acquired by J.P. Morgan & Co., which made it one of the biggest corporate giants in America. In 1951, Hercules Coffee was sold to Brown-Forman Corporation, which merged with PepsiCo to form Pepsi-Cola Incorporated.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Hercules is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 44,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to settle in what is now Hercules were the Pomo Indians who lived on the east side of hills that are now downtown and near Conejo Valley Road. The first European settlers in this area were Spanish soldiers who arrived in 1769 during Governor Manuel Nieto's Battalion of Discovery expedition from New Spain. There was no real town or village until 1852 when William Richardson built a cabin on an artificial hillock northeast of downtown called Richardson's Hill. This became known as Hercules after General George Armstrong Custer's cavalry camp which was located just south of town off State Route 66 about three miles (5 km) east of present-day Hercules Boulevard and one mile (1½ km) north of modern day Highland Avenue. In 1875, John Steedman opened his stables at what is now Old Post Office Square and began horse breeding operations that would continue until 1906 when he sold all his horses to Ayer Flores Ranch for $2,500 and ranch hands took over care and feeding them while they grew corn and hay on their fields. In World War I American Aviation Corp., headquartered in Santa Monica Airport leased land adjoining Ayer Flores' field for aviation testing purposes; however after WWI it reverted back to the ranchhands who continued to farm there until 1938 when aviation moved out again which resulted in the loss of most if not all evidenceassociated with early aviation research here at Hercules Airport including nearly 100 feet (30 m) tall hangar towers erected by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation test pilots during pure flying tests before their production aircraft flew into McClellan Air Force Base nearby during 1941-1945! Hebrew University educator Abraham Isaac Kook established agricultural school at what is now Pioneer Park adjacent to School District #217 also annexing former Decatur Elementary School property along Utopia Drive from 1923-1927; however due to World War II GI relocation policies active duty military personnel were kept away from local campuses making college education difficult or impossible even for those students completing their degrees! Today only two buildings remain original within city limits dating back to 1925 housing both the old City Hall Annex building which still functions as City Hall today as well as Building 602 plaza across from Italia’s Pizza & Pasta restaurant once occupied by Mrs Alice Kahn’s candy store but torn down some time ago because its lot included inside wallsand rooflines associated with earlier Herculean effortsto save/preserve physical evidence related thereto: examples include intact framing membersfrom two commercial storefronts formerly located between 2nd Street & 4th Avenue although both have been demolished since leaving behind extensive foundations & interiors remaining largely unaltered (& virtually unchanged since circa 1915!) several large trees recently restored/remodeled on site including towering Olive Tree House currently used as offices by City Manager concurrent with other city hall annexes destroyed (& replaced long ago!!!) all within walking distance either directly or via short alley strolls running parallel & perpendicular Streets leading into Center District - finally Note: No less than 10 significant "Hercules" landmarks listed herein existed prior TO construction OF currentCity Hall complex!!!
