The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company was one of the first companies to go publicand issued shares directly to its customers. This innovative approach allowed them to remain solvent during tough times and continue innovating while their competition hemorrhaged money. In 1937, they merged with another large regional company, Dutch West Indies Coffee Corporation (NWIC), which helped keep Hercules afloat during difficult times. The merger created what would become one of America’s leading coffee companies, serving customers from coast-to-coast until 1989 when they were acquired by Starbucks Corporation. Today, Hera Coffees continues to serve quality beans direct to consumers all over North America under three brands: Zeus Collection Roasters (Canada), Hades Coffee Roasters (Mexico City), and finally Hermitage Coffee Roasters (Hercules). Hermes is a city located in the Central Valley of California, United States. The population was 54,421 at the 2000 census. It is the most populous city in Kern County and it is also the most populous municipality in Kern County by far. The first people to inhabit what is now Hermes were Mono-speaking Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals near present day Healdsburg. In 1847, Spanish missionaries visiting America discovered this area and founded a mission here. The Mission San Francisco de Asís (founded in 1776) had a significant impact on the community as it served as both a religious center and a place where crops could be grown for sale to local merchants. In 1868, when Ulysses S. Grant became President of America, he designated Hermes its seat of government. A $5 million bond issue was passed by voters in November 1870 to construct a courthouse, jail, schoolhouse and other public buildings within the limits of the new town boundaries. On February 1, 1871, The Citizens’ Committee for Civic Improvement organized to promote development within the boundaries of Hermes from what are now Grimes Street eastward to State Route 120 westward. This committee soon realized that much more could be done within their proposed town boundaries which included streets such as Sepulveda Boulevard (now Interstate 5), Healdsburg Avenue (now George Street), Hope Road (now Katella Drive), Elysian Fields Road (now First Street) as well as including parts of today’s downtown area including Oliveira Plaza shopping mall and portions of northbound I-5 southbound beyond Blossom Hill Road into today’s Carson City while also extending eastward onto State Route 120 from current day College Avenue all the way up to today’s Donner Summit exit off I-5 near Hermosa Beach Boulevard In response to this growing need for service facilities within their borders, on October 16th 1890 voters approved an ordinance creating municipal services district No. 2 with jurisdiction over water systems, street lighting and parks within two miles square thereof bounded on each side by streets meeting at right angles thereto or bordering upon any unincorporated territory then existing therein; provided further that said service district may include certain areas now Included Within Municipal Services District No . 1 . This act created Municipal Services District No . 2 which functioned essentially unchanged until 1965 when it merged with Municipal Services District No . 1 On May 25th 1945 veteran's organizations Unitarian Universalist Fellowship #1 & #2 along with American Veterans Committee Local 1055 helped celebrate VE Day at Which time many items were auctioned off such as uniforms worn during World War II + medals awarded posthumously Hermes has experienced various types of growth since its incorporation into municipal services district Number 2 back in 1990!
