The first time the national guard was brought in to help with the response to a fire in Hercules, California was in 1941. The National Guard arrived and were used for a short amount of time before being sent back home. This barracks would later become known as Camp Pendleton which is still used by the guard today. It wasn’t until 1977 when an armored car detachment called “Hercules Attack Squadron” was activated within the brigade headquarters. This squadron would later become known as Fighter Wing 137 (FW137) and provide air support for Operation Desert Storm in 1991-1992.
